Corpse cleaned off the blood off of his knife. He'd been hired by some mercenary gang to take out a rival gang's lieutenant. He pulled out a bandage from his back pocket, placing it on a gash under his arm. All of their members were all talented in fighting, so his employees had to promise to pay him a ton of money. They'd paid him a large down payment, so he hoped they'd follow through with their promise.
Walking out of the room, looking around. Luckily, he'd made sure there would be nobody in the building that day. He pulled at his phone to make a call. "Hey Phil. Job's done, send the package over."
Phil laughed. "You're an idiot. We ain't paying you shit!"
"You're going back on your word? Even after you paid the down payment?" Corpse asked.
"Check the bank account we sent the down payment to." Phil said.
Corpse logged into his bank account, to see 0 dollars in his account. "You CROOK!" he snarled.
"We all are!" Phil laughed, and hung up.
Corpse stabbed his knife on a nearby table and punched the wall. He needed that money, badly. He was behind his rent for two months, and was pretty much broke. He'd been relying on small jobs for gangs here and there for a while, but this job would have given him enough money to raise himself out of poverty.
"Hi Corpse."
Corpse swung his head towards the direction of the voice, to see two Capos of the most powerful gang in the city sitting down leisurely on a desk that hadn't been there before when he looked. It was Capo Lily, sitting with a flower in her hair and her dog, Temmie in her lap, and Capo Toast, who was wearing shades and had a badge on his suit that looked like a piece of Bread with a mustache. members of the Comfy Cartel. Fortunately, Corpse was old friends with them. Very old friends. He hadn't been in touch with them for a few years.
"Congratulations on your most recent execution." Capo Lily smirked, glancing at the spot on the wall that Corpse punched. "I'm sure you got a load of cash for killing one of the Ulters."
The Ulters was a gang that Corpse's victim was supposedly in. Corpse clenched his fist, remembering how he got scammed. "Lily...Toast. What are you doing here?"
Lily smiled. "Doesn't hurt to visit an ol' friend right?"
Corpse gulped. "Uh oh." he thought. That meant that they were going to kill him, or try to recruit him. He wasn't sure which was worse.
"Anywhoo, I came here to give you this." Lily flicked a buisness card across the table. "I hope you're interested. It took a while to find you."
Corpse walked up to the table, and stared at the card, which had the faint silhouette of a flower in the background. He read the card.

"So this is why you're here. To recruit me?" Corpse asked.
Toast glanced at his partner. "Lily is. She's in charge of public relations, which includes hiring people for some reason. I'm just her bodyguard for now."
"Just think about it." Lily sighed. "You're low on cash, and low on friends. We need talent like you in the Cartel."
Corpse pondered their offer. The Cartel certainly had a lot of money, but he'd been working alone for a while. "I'll... think about it." Corpse said.
"Make up your mind before the day after tomorrow." Lily said as she pulled herself out of her chair. "The meeting spot will be at a small corner plant shop, on barrow avenue. And bring that card with you. You'll need it to get in."
Toast and Lily made their way down the hallway, and pushed through the doors. Toast looked back at Corpse and bowed his head. "Good luck Corpse. We will be waiting for your arrival." The door shut behind Toast leaving Corpse wondering what to do.
