"We'll be back around 11, okay? Make sure you lock up the house. Don't answer the door for anyone, okay? Remember, we have our own key." Your mother was worried, as any mother would, the first night they leave their daughter home alone was nerve wrecking and she dreaded that she even had to do it.

"Okay mom, I won't answer the door for anyone!" You smiled at her, you couldn't lie to yourself, you were petrified being home alone, but your parents needed to go since it was a celebration for your fathers new position in the company he's been working at since you were born. Plus, you knew your parents needed a break, last Thursday you waited until 30 minutes before the store closed to remind them you needed a poster board for your science project, which made your parents scramble into the car, telling at you about 'why you didn't remind them sooner'. Then you stayed up until midnight putting it together, your mother helping.

"What's the number you call incase of emergency?"

"911!"

"Where do you go—"

"Honey, I think she knows. She knows where the house phone is, I already went around the house to make sure everything was locked. She's going to be fine." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, his free hand grabbing hers, "Now we have to go, I can't be late to this."

Your mother sighed, leaning down to press a quick kiss on your cheek before walking towards the front door. You walked to the window, moving the blinds aside as you watched your dad lock up the house, wiggling the door knob to prove to your mother that it was indeed locked. You watched as they walked towards the car, the light snow formed footprints on the ground as they got in. Before you knew it, your father pulled off and down the long, empty road. The lights got smaller and smaller the farther you got, until you couldn't see the lights anymore.

You quickly ran into the living room, grabbing the remote and turning it on. Now that your parents were gone you could finally see the horror movie you waited so long to see. You of course had to wait until this day, where you were all alone to actually watch it. Your mother didn't want you to get nightmares, and your dad would have gotten nightmares if he watched the movie with you. Now that you were all alone, it was the perfect time to watch it.

The TV was on pause as you went to the kitchen. You looked through cabinets, your eyes roaming over everything when you finally decided to just grab a few boxes, along with opening the fridge to grab a few drinks. As you reached up to grab the last drink, you heard a light tapping sound. You paused, feeling your stomach drop as you heard a few more taps on the window behind you. You could feel your blood running cold, the fear sending a shiver all the way up your spine as you slowly turned around to the window behind you.

You let out a laugh when you noticed it was a tree branch, which made you shake your head and you grabbed the drink, using your elbow to shut the door before going back to the living room. Plopping on the couch, you set the drinks and snacks on the coffee table, snatching the remote to hurry up and press play.

You rolled your eyes, typing in the four digit code, (birth month/birthday). It was their password to everything. But, this was the only time you've ever done this. In all actuality, you were a good kid. You got good grades, your homework was on your desk as soon as you got home, your room was always cleaned. You were a star child, except for now. The beginning of The Conjuring started playing, making a shiver run up your spine. You reached back, pulling the blanket over your shoulders, grabbing the bag of (snack of your choice).
