The Commander's Power

Chapter 10

It was early Wednesday morning at the Inn.

Zoe was sitting down on the floor with her legs crisscrossed in front of her coffee table that was in her room.

Papers were scattered in front of her, She was analyzing each and every one of them.

Zooming in and out with her magnifying glass counting each and every line on each fingerprint trying to match the fingerprints that were left on the wooden chest.

What helped her was the black and white Polaroid pictures she had taken of the finger and footprints left in the king's bank room.

This would be a first for her to use a camera to collect evidence, as it cost a lot of money that the police station did not have.

Lucky for her she was working with the Commander who had all the high-tech machinery at his use.

After her run-in last night and almost getting caught,  she decided to stay low key and not go into the bank today.

She felt that she didn't really need to go with her having everything that she needed in front of her.

Plus she thought this is a win-win for her, she gets to work in her room and try to find answers to solve the case and she didn't have to see the Commander.

She found herself having a great day because of it.

Kock kock

Was heard at the door.

Zoe wasn't sure who that might be, she didn't order anything so why would somebody be at her door?

Then her mind started to play tricks on her and her heart started to race.

"Maybe it's the Commander? Maybe he wants to know where I am? " she said out loud to herself. 

Ok, you got this you can handle it if it's him don't freak out.

Clearing her voice so that it didn't sound weird, she uses her manly voice that she always uses to outsiders.

"Who is it?" She asked.

"It's me open Up, my hands are full. I brought you some tea and snacks to eat." Said Keith outside of her door.

"Oh ok hold on, I'll be right there.

Zoe got up off the ground straightening out her white shirt to get the wrinkles out.

After she was done she walked over towards the door opening it up.

Keith had a big smile on his face, it's been a week since he has seen his best friend.

He had missed her very much and when he found out by the Chief that she was working in her room he needed to go over right away.

Keith walked into her room not waiting for her to say come in he heads over towards the coffee table but before he could place the teapot down Zoe ran over as fast as she could to move all the papers.

God forbid something would happen to those papers and knowing her luck something would happen.

Keith placed everything down and looked at his friend before him.

He looked her up and down then said " Have you been eating? You look like you have lost some weight."

Keith was not happy with the idea of his friend missing meals, he thought that she needed to eat more she was way too skinny.

Zoe swished her hand in the air.

"Don't worry about me I eat when I can. I have just been so busy and by the time I get back here the kitchen is already closed but don't worry I do eat."

"Now let's sit and enjoy the things you had brought us."

Zoe sat down then flipped two teacups over.

She picked up the teapot
poring tea into each cup.

"Zoe not to sound rude but not only do you look like you have not been eating but you also look very tired. Your eyes are so dark underneath them, Why don't I step in and help you. My dad and I have not been doing much since we had come here, the Commander has us working on odd jobs."

Zoe had a sad look on her face but she was not hurt by Keith's words she knew he only said those things because he cared.

"Keith I wish that I could have you beside me helping but the Commander won't allow it. He only wants him and I to work together and that's about it."

As they chatted someone listens in from the other side of the door.

He waited to hear what they had to say before he knocked on the door.

But What the Commander did notice from their little chat was one had a soft feminine voice.

Knock knock

Keith got up and answered the door, to both of their surprises it was the Commander.

The Commander looked Keith up and down with a serious look on his face.

"Are you going to invite me in?" The Commander asked.

"Oh sorry, Sir please do come in." Reply Keith moving out of the way for the Commander to walk in.

As the Commander enters the room he sees that it's very clean and dust-free.

He heads over towards Zoe and says" I heard that your working from the Inn today. So I want you At the end of the day to come to my room. I want to look over all the evidence that you have collected so far."

Zoe looked at Keith and then at the Commander not sure how to respond to what he had just said so she just said "Ok."

"Good." Was his reply.

The Commander didn't say goodbye or anything else, he just walked right out of the room closing the door behind him.

Keith right away said "Zoe you can't go to his bedroom tonight by yourself, you're a woman. What if something happens?"

"Trust me I don't want to be left in a small room with him but what choice do I have? Anyways I don't see anything happening unless he likes to have the male company ship at night."

"Get your mind out of the gutter Zoe."

Keith rolls his eyes at her.

"You need to start making female friends because with you hanging out with males every day your starting to think like one and proper women would not be thinking that way. For you going to his room I' ll be accompanying you so you better not leave without me"........
