Present-day. . .
The man glanced around the small town, traversing the roads and walking the sidewalks. He was in no hurry. He was right where he needed to be. Something tapped his shoulder and he spun around, seeing her. How did she catch up to him so quickly? She gestured to the coffee shop next to him, and they walked in together, sitting down at a table.
"Salazar, something is happening between you and Eight." He nodded, normally he wouldn't divulge that information, but these were extenuating circumstances. He knew she trusted him. Although they had fought many times, they honored each others' strength. She was a veteran, she was in the Air Defense Squadron, and he was the Dark Magician. She realized the twisted ways of society and joined the Allegiance.
A coffee mug clanked onto the table as she quickly took it, nodding at him. He took off his mask first, resting it on the table. She took hers off, her red mask contrasting against the silver one he owned. He was surprised at her beauty, under that mask she wore makeup, a risky move on a hot day. She had a very chiseled jawline from the many steroids she took, many of which remained unnamed to Salazar.
"You and Remnant have a history." Her voice carried across the cafe as he looked down at the table, avoiding glances from other people. He nodded again, looking at her. He would divulge most information to her, he trusted her. But why would she need that information?
"He told me." Salazar hummed in approval, so he trusted her enough. They seemed to have a connection with each other that they would attempt to hide very poorly. Perhaps there was more to that story. He locked eyes with her, tilting his head slightly.
"Salazar, Remnant and I are together. I'm barely at the meetings nowadays because of that." Salazar nodded, listening closely. She smiled nervously, he underestimated how much she trusted him. He would use that against her eventually.

"Diieeegoooooo!" He turned around, Danielle running full speed into his face. She tackled him to the ground, laughing hysterically.
He cleared his throat which just made her laugh more, getting off of him. He stood up slowly, rubbing the back of his head and chuckling.
"I missed you! I haven't seen you in like two days!" He nodded solemnly, looking at her. She tilted her head curiously as he wrapped her in a hug, pulling her in close.
"Cut it. Don't fake it around me." He felt her flinch as her body grew tense. He slowly rubbed circles on her back before she broke away from the hug. What the hell did he do now?
"Thank you." She looked down on the ground, her expression serious. Her cheeks were red from laughing as she kicked a few pebbles on the road. He checked the time on his watch, thirty minutes until the bus came. He grabbed her hand, pulling her towards the direction of the lake.
He felt resistance and he stopped, looking at her. She was standing still, she looked angry. Why was she angry at him? He felt a feeling as if he did something wrong, but he didn't know what.
"It's not you." He walked toward her but she took a step away. Was she lying? She seemed mad, and the only logical explanation was that it was him who made her mad.
"Stop overthinking it, Diego. It's not you. Just drop it." He looked at her, she was fighting something. Maybe even suffering. He didn't know what to do, he was at a loss for words. He took another step, and she took another step back.
