▬▬▬▬Marley's POV▬▬▬▬
Em was a hilarious mess as she shuffled over to where I sat, her heavy tote bag making her walk at an unnatural tilt. I tried to hide my laughter by sipping my drink but by the cute glare she gave me when she collapsed in her seat, I failed.
"Good morning, Sunshine," I teased.
With a pout, she fluffed her bangs out of her eyes, her usually short cut growing longer than she'd let it since she got married.
"I don't have it in me to come up with an entertaining response to you right now. I. Need. Coffee."
Waiving the waitress serving us over, I smiled and asked her to bring us both another mug of coffee. Mine was pretty much emptied while I waited for Emma to get here.
"You know what you're in the mood for today?" I asked. We aimed to have these breakfast dates at least once every two to three weeks. It'd been a little while since our last one, considering everything that happened recently.
"Hell yes I do. My stomach's been growling for the fattest, thickest cinnamon roll they've got. Ughhhh," she moaned, her eyes rolling back as she added, "With icing everywhere. Give me all the fucking calories."
Laughing, I agreed. "We could definitely use some sweetness in our lives."
"Mmhm. I'm sure Joel's giving you plenty. What did you guys do for Valentine's Day, anyway?"
Thinking back to that day, I smiled down at my almost empty mug, remembering how cute Joel was that day.
"Oh man, now I've really gotta know. What did that idiot do that's got you blushing and all dreamy eyed?!" Em questioned, leaning forward, ready for the details.
"Well..." I began. "Every year he's Everly's valentine, they go all out, dinner, movies...I didn't want him to break tradition for me, so I told him not to worry about a dinner that day. We could have a belated date the day after, y'know. No biggie."
"Riiiiight," she rolled her eyes, knowing me well enough to know I was actually a huge romantic and was hoping deep down he'd still plan something. Thankfully, he did.
"Alrighty, two orders of our Pink Pancakes for the lovely couple," I said, placing a plate of the pink, heart shaped pancakes in front of the elderly gentleman and his lady.
They were such sweethearts, married for almost fifty years, and their eyes still sparkled when they looked at one another. Oh, my hopelessly romantic heart almost burst when the man reached for her hand and kissed it, saying something I couldn't hear as I left.
The diner was decorated for the day, paper hearts strung up along the walls, pink and red confetti sprinkled around a small vase of flowers on each table. Even our uniforms were different today, each of us dawning a pink or white shirt as opposed to the usual black.
"Ugh, I hate this holiday," Beth groaned, rolling her eyes as she settled next to me at the counter, waiting for our next orders. "It's so stupid. Half of these people probably won't even be together come next month."
"Maybe..." I shrugged, used to Beth and her angst. "But that leaves half of them that still will be."
Shaking her head while she fought a smile, I playfully bumped her with my hip before starting another round of checking on my diners.

"Shouldn't you be on break right now?" Seamus asked me from behind the register, his brow lifting, confused.
