Fandom: The Hobbit
Pairing: The Company x Reader (platonic)
Words: 1485
Summary: You found an old little workshop in one of the abandoned halls in Erebor. It has been almost 2 years since The Battle and renovations were well underway. In the little workshop, you found tools from your world, for example, screwdrivers, hammers, spanners etc. You spend for what felt like hours inside the workshop repairing a little radio barely bigger than your hand. And when you finally fixed it, you went to show The Company only to find something is very wrong.
A/N: This is my first 'x Reader' story so I would appreciate it if you could point out any mistakes that I may have made because this isn't edited. This is an Everyone lives/Nobody dies (kind of) au because I said so. This took about a little over an hour to write, and I must say, I'm quite proud of how it turned out.

You bolted upright in your bed, clutching the front of your nightshirt. 'Was it a dream?' you thought to yourself. You had to find out.
The mere thought of not having all your dwarves with you alive was enough to make your heart break all over again.
The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon. You sat there for a moment and watched as the sun rose into the sky. Swallowing the tears, you got out of bed with shaky legs. You were still recovering from that horrible nightmare you had, or had it really happened?
You slowly walked to your bedroom door, careful not to make too much noise. You already knew that the doors rarely made any noise, but it was a habit that you had yet to break.
You walked to the dining room, your feet quietly slapping on the marble floor. With shaky hands, you pushed the door open and peeked inside.
There at the table sat Balin, tentatively sipping his tea while he gazed at the rising sun. You didn't know if he had noticed you yet, but you couldn't find it in yourself to care.
He was here, he was alive, that was all that you needed after that horrible nightmare you had. But you still couldn't get rid of the idea that what had happened wasn't just a silly nightmare, that you really had disappeared for a century and only three of your dwarves were alive.
Your emotions began to swell in your chest, making it hard to breathe properly. You let out a choked sob while trying to get much-needed air into your burning lungs.
This made Balin whip his head in your direction, and when he saw your red and puffy eyes starting to water, he was up in a second making his way to you.
"What's wrong child?" he has never spoken to you with such softness, which only cemented the idea of all this being a dream your grief-ridden mind created for you. You couldn't help but think that this Balin standing in front of you is only a figment of your imagination, that he and the rest of your dwarves were all long dead.
You stepped closer to him and slowly laid your head on his shoulder, trying to control the sobs treating to tear through your throat.
You felt his arms wrap around you as he brought you closer. It was then that you broke down. Your hands gripped his tunic so tightly that your knuckles turned white.
You didn't know how long you stood there, but you didn't care, as long as Balin, even if he was imaginary, was still here and not 6 feet under with the rest of The Company.
After what felt like ages, but in reality, was only a few minutes, you managed to regain yourself and pulled away from Balin. He looked at you with concern, his bushy white brows furrowed together.
