Today was the day. I was going to finally tell Robbie how I felt about him. I was pretty sure it would turn out well, seeing as I'm the only girl he ever hangs out with. We've been best friends for a while, but I wanted to be more than that. Hopefully he felt the same way.
I spot him walking down the hallway with one of his guy friends, gesturing with his hands wildly like he always does. I walk up behind him and tap him on the shoulder, making him turn around in surprise.
"Hey!" I greet him, a huge smile on my face.
"Oh, um, hey (Y/N)." He mumbles, and continues walking without waiting up for me. Okay...?
"Hey, um, what are you talking about?" I ask, slightly jogging to catch up to him once more. He doesn't even look at me, just shakes his head.
"Nothing." He replies in a dismissive tone.
"Well, can I talk to you for a second?" I ask quietly, and he looks at me before glancing around to check his surroundings... Almost like he was looking for someone...
"Uh, yeah I guess. Can it be quick? I kind if need to meet somebody." He breathes, looking over his shoulder.
"Yeah yeah, of course. Follow me." I say, grabbing his hand to lead him to the deserted music room. He quickly pulls his hand away, nervously looking around again. I frown slightly, and look up at him in annoyance.
"Are you looking for somebody? Because if I'm seriously that annoying, just tell me and I'll leave." I huff, crossing my arms as I face him once we are alone.
"No its just... Can you please just tell me what you need to say?" He sighs, rubbing a hand over his face. Maybe I shouldn't confess, he seems really different.
"Okay... Well I have been thinking for a while about how we are friends and all..." I say looking at my shoes, then to him. Only to realize he keeps looking at his phone.
"Robbie, are you even listening to me?" I say, waving my hand in front of his face.
"What? Oh yeah, something about friends?" He sighs, slouching slightly.
"Look, I'm obviously not that much of a priority to you so never mind." I say, starting to walk toward the door. What was his deal?
"No, please, just wait. I'm sorry (Y/N), just please tell me." He begs, grabbing my wrist to keep me from moving any farther. I sigh, looking into his sincere green eyes.
"Okay... well, I was thinking, that even though we are good friends, I thought that maybe we could be more than that...? I- I really like you Robbie." I stutter out, and look to see his reaction. I imagine how happy he will be, confessing he feels the same way, bringing me in for a hug...
His face expresses shock, his mouth hanging open and eyes wide. Is that good?
"Robbie?" I ask taking a step back. I was getting worried about how speechless he was.
"(Y/N)... I, I have a girlfriend..." He stutters out.
"Wait, what?" I whisper, tears already filling up in my eyes. He has a... Girlfriend?
"I was afraid to tell you... Because I had the idea you liked me, and I didn't want to hurt you. I'm so sorry (Y/N)." He apologizes, reaching for my hand.
I pull away, a stray tear making its way down my cheek.
"Who is she?" I ask harshly. I couldn't help how mean I sounded, it was like I had no control over my emotions.
"What?"
"Who is she?" I say again, more forcefully. He hesitates slightly, his mouth open, ready to speak. Ready to break my heart even more. But, he's beaten to it.
"Robbieeee!" A voice squeals out from the hallway. I know that voice...
"Robbie! There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you!" The voice says again but from the doorway this time. And here comes the school slut, Macie.
She was blonde, a cheerleader, and dumber than a box of rocks. The only thing she was good at was having sex in less than 3 minutes. And here she is, wrapping her arms around my Robbie, and giving him a sloppy kiss on the lips with her dollar store lipgloss.
"Robbieeee what are you doing in here with... her?" She asks in disgust, looking me up and down with her mop-water blue eyes. Bitch.
"I, um..." He stutters, looking to me in panic. I ignore him, and give Macie the biggest glare I could. She obviously gets the message because her eyes crinkle up in a glare as well.
"Sorry, I'm not sure who he is. I was just putting back my instrument." I say, gesturing to the ones around me. I look to Robbie, and see how hurt he is by my answer to her question.
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have more important things to do." I growl, barely being able to hold back my mixture of anger and heartbreak. I push through the two of them, causing Robbie to stumble back. I don't even look back as I make my way out of the school, the tears already streaming down my face.
I throw my head in my hands, sitting on a bench by the football field. Why did he do this to me? I can understand any other girl, but Macie? I thought he was so much better, so different than that. But now I wasn't so sure.
I startle once I realize my phone is ringing, and I answer it without looking at the caller ID.
"Hello?" I sniffle, wiping away my tears.
"(Y/N) please, just let me explain." I hear from the other end, immediately recognizing Robbie's voice.
"No thanks Robbie. I don't need you to explain." I say slowly, trying to hold back my anger.
"Please, just give me one minute-"
"No, I really don't want to hear your explanations. I get the idea but you don't need to rub your new girlfriend in my face. Have fun with Macie, I bet she's a real trophy. Probably puts out too." I spit out, gritting my teeth.
"(Y/N)..." I hear him beg one last time.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" I scream, and throw my phone onto the ground. I watch as it smashes into a million pieces on the asphalt, never to be put back together again.
Just like my heart. How fucking poetic.
