The air had been filled with a deadly silence. Ember had her feet propped up in the gap between the two front seats. She was uncomfortable, but she didn't want to move for fear of annoying Steve. She gently bobbed her head to the rhythm of the pop song that was wafting out of the radio. She remembered hearing Nancy dancing around to it in the kitchen when she thought she was alone. It was by a band called.. King? No, Queen.
Steve suddenly spoke. "Wait a sec. How big?"
"First, it was like that" Dustin held out his fingers. "Now he's like this" He stretched his arms out.
Steve rolled his eyes "I swear to God man, it's just some little lizard, okay?"
"It's not a lizard!" Ember sighed. Steve turned around to her for a second, as if he had forgotten she was there. "Who even are you kid?" "This is Ember, she has superpowers, yadda yadda it's not important" Dustin said passively.
"What, like El?" "How does everyone know El? " Ember thought. Her sister must have made quite a big impact when she was here. Ember felt her heart sink as she realised she had no idea where El was, and how many places she could be. There was silence for a split second before Steve cut in again, his voice rising.
"How do you know it's not just a lizard?"
"Because his face opened up and he ate my cat!" Dustin yelled back, finally silencing the young man behind the wheel. Ember leaned back into the leather seat and let the music that was still blaring from the radio engulf her, washing away any other thoughts.
"We're just waiting for the hammer to fall" Freddie Mercury's voice rang in her ears as they pulled up to Dustin's house. They three of them quickly hopped out and moved to the back of the car. Steve lifted up the trunk, throwing his keys to Dustin, and leaned in, pulling out a bat covered in nails, and what looked like dried blood. Dustin and Ember stared in awe at the weapon, as Steve slammed the trunk shut.

Steve shone his torch on the painted red doors of the cellar, and Dustin took a few steps back in apprehension. Ember stood patiently beside Steve, knowing that her powers were strong enough to handle the creature that lay waiting for them in the dark.
"I don't hear shit." Ember rolled her eyes. How could Steve still be sceptical?
"He's in there" Dustin gestured. Steve cautiously leaned forward and tapped his bat on the doors. Nothing. He stepped back and raised his bat above his head, bringing it down with more force. Still nothing. Steve turned back to Dustin, shining his flashlight directly into the younger teen's face. "Alright, listen kid. I swear, if this is some sort of Hallowe'en prank, your dead."
"It's not." Dustin replied simply.
"All right?"
"It's not a prank!" Dustin hissed. "Get it out of my face."
Steve ignored him, keeping his flashlight trained on Dustin's face.
"You got a key for this thing?" Steve gestured back to the doors, that were still bolted shut with the lock Dustin had attached earlier. "Yeah but it's inside..."
"Hey wait, blondie."
Steve turned his attention towards Ember, who had been silent for most of their argument. "You have superpowers, right? Take off the lock." Ember nodded, and spun around to the doors again. Steve shone his flashlight away from Dustin's face and onto the padlock binding the doors shut. The non-rusty parts of the metal shone in the bright beam, dazzling the three teenagers. Ember narrowed her eyes in concentration and held out her hand, focusing all her energy on the lock. It began to quiver slightly. She jerked her head to the side sharply, causing the lock to shatter.
