epilogue.
what a feeling
.✧*:・゚

𝙈𝙄𝙆𝙀 𝘼𝙉𝘿 𝙒𝙄𝙇𝙇 slouched in their chairs, glancing over expectantly at the door every few minutes. "Where are they? The song's nearly over, me and El won't get to dance properly." Mike whined. Will said nothing, simply staring down at his shoes, blushing slightly.

"Hey, what about you?" Mike asked suddenly, puzzled by his friend's quietness. "What about me?" Will responded, even though he knew exactly what Mike was going to say.

"Well, aren't you gonna ask Em to dance? I swear, you two are so weird. Just kiss her already and get it over with."

Will glared at him "Well, for your information Mike, I was planning on asking her to dance. And, well, maybe.. also...-" He trailed off, and the blush on his cheeks darkened.

Mike's eyes grew round, and he playfully jolted his friend with his elbow. "Hey, good for you man! I'm sure she'll say yes, everyone knows you two are crazy for each other." Will was about to respond when the gym doors swung open, and in stepped the girl in question, followed closely by her sister.

The two boys were awestruck, bewitched by the two girls walking towards them. El was wearing a blue patterned dress with puffy sleeves, and a pink belt that cinched her wasit in. Her short hair had been pulled back from her face, and pink eyeshadow had been swept over her eyes, which instantly met Mike's. She smiled, grabbing Em's hand and pulling her in the boys' direction.

Em had spent over an hour picking out a dress with Joyce yesterday, she had wanted it to be perfect, and she was happy with her choice. The one she had picked was a deep plum colour, with a twirly flared skirt that reached her knees, and puffy sleeves to match El's. The belt that hung around her waist was pale blue. Her blonde hair fell around her shoulders in loose curls, and framed her small face, on which a smile was beginning to appear.

She felt pretty, for the first time in her life. Her and El hadn't ever gotten to experience being children, and getting to wear flouncy dresses and look nice, so they had wanted to go all out for the Snowball.

Will and Mike stood up to meet them, Mike grabbing El's hand and dragging her towards the dance floor. That left Will and Em to smile gently at each other, only a few feet apart.

Will broke the silence abruptly. "You look really pretty, Em." Em could feel the hot blush creeping up her face, as she responded softly "Thank you, you look very nice too" Will mumured his thanks, and, taking a deep breath, gestured to the dance floor where their other friends were already dancing together.

"Would you, maybe, wanna dance? It's okay if you say no, I get it." He added quickly when he saw the startled expression on her face. But she laughed, and shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not sure how to dance, I've never tried before." Something took over the boy, a sense of boldness and confidence suddenly filling him.

Its now or never, Will, he thought.

Will gently took her hand in his own, entwining their fingers as he led her towards the dance floor. "Well, I can teach you, come on!"

As they walked through the crowded dance floor, Em could see Max and Lucas dancing together. She was about to go and say hi, when Max suddenly leaned in and kissed Lucas swiftly, before pulling away. They smiled at each other, before she placed her head on his shoulder, still swaying to the faint music. Em stared at them in suprise. She looked to her other side only to see Mike and El breaking apart from a similar embrace, foreheads leaning on each other.

She glanced at Will, who had stopped, and smiled at him. Her, Max and El had been given many lectures and guides by Nancy on boys in preparation for this ball, and Em knew what she had to do.

Its now or never, Em, she thought.

"Okay, now you just gotta put your hands.. here- like that!" Will gently took her hands and placed them on his shoulders, before putting his own around her waist. He began to gently sway his body in time with the music, beckoning for her to copy his actions. The two soon began to get the hang of dancing, just smiling at each other as they swung to the rythem.

The world around them faded slowly as they twirled, everyone else seemed to simply melt away. The pair felt as if they were floating, on a cloud high above everything else. Nothing else was important right now, it was just them. Em's eyes grew starry, anticipation growing as Will leaned in, closing the small distance between their bodies.

As his lips met hers, it felt as if a million fireworks were set off inside her. His lips were soft and sweet, like a blossoming rose. They both opened their eyes slowly, lips still connected. Em giggled into the kiss, and Will, copying Mike's action, leaned his forehead against hers as they danced in comfortable silence, warmed by the other's touch.

This was perfect. All the couple's previous worries and fears dissaperated as they danced, up on their fluffy little cloud, far away from Hawkins Middle School. Em was still cautious of this whole love thing. It was a strange, mysterious thing to her that she knew little of, but she did know that being here, with Will, feeling that odd gap in her chest being filled with warmth, was something she could get used to

This was a brand new feeling.

And what a feeling it was.
