𖣘Zack's pov𖣘
I paced back and forth in my room, papers strewn across the bed and scattered throughout the space. It had been a day since Hunter's kidnapping, and I couldn't find a moment of peace.
"Sir, I brought you some food. I was told you hadn't eaten anything the entire day," Brian said as he entered my room, concern etched on his face.
I glanced at the food momentarily, my mind too consumed by worry to even consider eating.
"You seem rather busy. Should I come back later?" Brian asked, his voice gentle.
"No, it's okay," I replied, my voice laden with exhaustion.
I ran a hand through my hair, frustration and fear intertwining within me.
"Did you sleep at all?" Brian inquired, his voice filled with genuine concern.
"How can I sleep when they have Hunter? I can't rest until I have him back," I admitted, my voice tinged with desperation. I massaged my temples, trying to alleviate the tension that had settled there.
"I've figured out that asshole Belvis is the one who took him, but pinpointing his location is proving to be a challenge," I explained, my frustration evident.
Brian paused for a moment, his gaze fixed on me. "Maybe you should take a break, get some rest, and eat while you're at it. I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out if you take a step back," he suggested gently.
I let out a bitter chuckle, the idea of rest seeming impossible in the face of Hunter's captivity.
"Brian, you know I can't. He might be in actual trouble, considering he hasn't escaped yet. I'm scared... I don't want to lose him. I can't take it," I confessed, my voice breaking with emotion. The thought of losing Hunter, of failing to protect him, was a torment that gripped my heart.
"I know, if not anyone else, I know how much he means to you. I promise you right now, I'll get him back for you," Brian assured me, determination gleaming in his eyes. "He's important to me too."
I groaned in annoyance, taking out my phone. The situation was dire, and I needed more intel on Belvis. I knew exactly who could fill in the blanks for me.
"You calling Mr. Steven," Brian asked, catching on to my intentions.
"Yeah, he's the deputy chief of police, after all," I explained, my mind already formulating a plan.
"I could talk to him if you permit me," Brian offered, sensing my reluctance to make the call myself.
"No, I'll handle this," I assured him, my determination outweighing my frustrations.
I unlocked my phone and dialed Steve's number, the seconds ticking by as I waited impatiently for him to answer.
"Wow, this is surprising. Never thought I'd ever see this number calling me," Steve joked, his voice light-hearted.
"Don't worry, I didn't call to ask you on a date," I remarked curtly, my impatience seeping through.
"Oh, too bad. I would have loved that," he replied sarcastically, his tone shifting as he picked up on the seriousness of my mood.
