Lily knew better than that.
She knew she couldn't forgive him anytime soon, or forget what he said. She should've seen it coming. Maybe it wouldn't have hurt her this much. Should've, would've, could've... but she didn't.
Her head spinning with everything that happened over the past few days, she stumbled back into the common room. And as always, the four idiots, who called themselves the marauders, were sitting there, happily chatting, with not a care in the world. For once, Lily actually paid attention to them. She found herself admitting that they had been right, her bestfriend, well, now no longer her bestfriend, was too far down the wrong path. She settled down in an armchair across the room, and kept her gaze on the boys.
There was little Peter Pettigrew, who always seemed timid, and was said to be a great listener. He mostly wore beanies, probably because his hair was extremely frizzy, and he didn't seem to like that. This boy was always twitchy, and nervous, but once offered food, he would be anybody's friend.
It was quite concerning to Lily.
Then there was good old Remus Lupin. He had long scars running down his face, but Lily knew that despite his appearance, he was a real sweetheart. He always seemed happy and grateful to be around people like James and Sirius, and Lily understood why.
They were the first people, apart from herself, to accept Remus as he was. When Remus called himself a monster, Sirius Black guffawed for 4 minutes straight, and only stopped when Lily smacked his head.
He, for the most part, wore sweaters and was warm and snuggly, curled up next to the fire or the window depending on the season, with a book and a cup of tea in his hands.
Next was Sirius Black. Oh, what a plot twist he was.
Coming from a family that believed in pure blood supremacy, the first shock to everyone was him being sorted into Gryffindor. He was incredibly handsome, no denying that, and had new girls in love with him almost everyday, but his eyes were only for one.
Befriending "blood-traitors" like Potter, "animals" like Lupin, and "half-bloods" like Pettigrew, was the next shock he gave to everyone. He was insanely loyal to these guys, anyone could see that. If one speaks anything against Sirius for having a horrible last name, they must be insane, thought Lily. To her, it was no secret that he had run away from The Blacks, and now lived with Potter.
Ah, and Potter. James Potter.
For the first few years at Hogwarts, Lily Evans was convinced that James Potter was nothing but a dunderhead. Always running his hands through his hair, and smirking at people, rambling about Quidditch and what-not.
Now, Lily Evans knew better.
He ruffled his hair when he was nervous, and she blushed as she realised that he always did that around her. His love for Quidditch came from his father, about who James (and Sirius) always spoke proudly about.
To say they were devastated when Mr. and Mrs. Potter died was an understatement. James refused to come out of his room for a week, and spent a lot of time with Professor McGonagall before slowly returning back to normal.
James Potter, unlike Sirius Black, spent time in the library, once he started accepting that he actually likes it to be quiet and peaceful sometimes.
James Potter seemed to love unconditionally, and always seemed to know the right thing to do. He is so selfless and kind, and just all the right things, that made Lily's heart break.
James Potter was real fucking handsome; he was a tall and thin man, with hazel eyes, always twinkling with mischief, and untidy black hair, wearing wiry glasses.
When James Potter smiled, it lights up the room. Lily noticed that when he helped her up in the third year, when she skidded down the ice. His eyes sparkle and so do his teeth and his whole face just lifts so perfectly that it is impossible to not smile back. Yeah, he grins and smirks, but goddamn, when he smiles, everything is warmer and brighter. Even Snape's face once faltered when he smiled, and that, is something that she has never seen happen. His smile makes her feel giddy and weak, and feel happy and at home at the same time.
James Potter, who now turned around and looked at her, and bloody hell- don't do it- Oh Merlin!- smiled.
She fell for him fast, with no brakes.
