First, what you need for a wonderful book, an action thriller, drama or romance, is a plot. Build your plot and note down the details in a book or in a virtual document.
Your plot must be completely sensible first, so there are no plot holes. If there a plot holes, the chapters wouldn't make sense.
I mostly write fanfictions, so I do not know how it would be for a normal story.
But these are important points.
1. Your characters must be relatable, but not too much. It's a story, a reader comes to books to get their mind off of the real world, make it as dreamy as possible.
2. Your book must have one important meaning from the plot, or a life lesson. What i write is mostly about love. You could write on what you would want.
3. Some readers like tragedy, but not everyone. Tragedy is basically drama, as a picky reader, I would suggest not to kill the main characters as it would make the reader irritated. But again, it's your wish.
4. I read books that have no set meaning at all! And the drama that happens, does not even make sense.
For example: The female lead gets pregnant, but the baby dies because the villain stabs her stomach. And the doctor clearly states that she cannot give birth ever again.
3 chapters later she can magically get pregnant again? like there is no reason, the author just says she is pregnant. No medical reason as to how she could give birth again, no reason.
Do not make your story stupid! Have a believable reason, give the reader a logical reason to what is happening!
This is what is needed first in your plot. If you like tragedy, write it! Each reader has their own point of view, and I don't like tragedy. There are many out there who does!
