Chapter 9 First day as a lifeguard part 2

Emily's POV

After I came out of the changing rooms Hoppo told me I'm with Deano in the North End. I went done the ramp and went over to Deano who was already in the rhino waiting for me.

EMILY: Hey Deano, it looks like were together then (smiling at him)

DEANO: Hey Emily, it does look like that does not it. (smiling back at her)

So right now, me and Deano are riding down to the North end for my first patrol. I was so excited to get started. Once we got to the North End, we started watching the beach. Hopefully, I get to rescue someone today.... Is that a bad thing to say?

We were sitting there for a while just talking about life and everything when me and Deano notice someone going under.

DEANO: Why don't you take this one Emily? Have you first rescue!

EMILY: Sure okay.

I get out of the rhino and strip off my shorts and top, so I was in my swimming suit and grabbed one of the rescue boards and ran into the water to do my first job as a lifeguard. I reached the woman successfully.

EMILY: Hop on, on your stomach facing forwards. (I said smiling at her)

I paddle us in, and she hops off. She thanks me before running of to her family on the beach. I walked back over to Deano and put the board away before sitting in the rhino.

DEANO: Good job Emily. (patting her on the back)

EMILY: Thanks, Deano (smiling)

After about 2 and half hours later and 12 more rescues for me we hear a crackle over the radio, it was Hoppo.

HOPPO over the radio: Hey Hoppo here... Emily, Deano you need to head back to the tower now. Maxi and Beardy are at north end now you two are in the tower now.

DEANO talking over the radio: Righto, we on our way.

Within the next minute the boys show up and we make our way to the tower. Once we were in the tower, I see Hoppo looking over the beach.

EMILY: Hey Hoppo. (smiling)

We walk over to the desk to sit down. I sit in my wheelchair and take off my prostatic leg for a while.

HOPPO: Hey Emily, Hey Deano, were in the tower till later.

EMILY & DEANO: That's fine Hoppo.

1 hour later

After talking with each other and telling the boy at the beach to go in for rescues there was a knock at the door, so I got my prostatic leg back on and walked over to the door and opened it. There stood and parent with a crying child.

EMILY: Hey, what can I help you with. (smiling gently at them)

THE PARENT: Hi, my daughter hurt her foot in the water, and I do not know what to do (looking worried about her daughter)

EMILY: Well, why do not you come in and put her on the bed and I will look at her okay (talking calmly at them). Hi little one what is your name then. (smiling at the little girl)

THE LITTLE GIRL: I'm .... Sam .... my (she said through crying)

EMILY: Well Sammy can you show me where it hurts please.

THE LITTLE GIRL: (Pointing to her foot) My foot hurts a lot. (crying)

EMILY: Well, why do not I make it better for you okay (smiling at her)

THE LITTLE GIRL: Okay.

15 minutes later and Sammy the little girl left with her mum with a bag of ice for her foot. I then walked over to Hoppo and Deano and told them we need to get the blue bottles sting sign out on the beach.

3 hours later it was time for us to go home as our shift has ended. Hoppo walked over to me when everyone else has left to go home.

HOPPO: Hey Emily I was wondering if you would like to go on a date with me. (he asked nervously)

EMILY: Hey Hoppo, I would love to do on a date with you.

HOPPO: Thank you Emily, I'll pick you up in 2 hours, is that okay with you? (smiling at her)

EMILY: Yes, that is fine with me thank you Hoppo. (smiling back at him)

HOPPO: Okay then I'll see you later Emily.

EMILY: Bye Hoppo, see you later.

After that we both left to get ready for our date.
