Adeline ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Peter was ahead, making his way through the woods, following the sound of the horn.
She could hear the commotion of the camp from far away, shouts and orders being commanded. As she ran with her blue skirts in her hands, Adeline prayed that the girls were alright.
She wasn't prepared for what she saw. Susan and Lucy were both in a tree, scrambling up higher onto the branches as two massive wolves snapped and growled at their feet.
Peter ran through the river that was in the way of them and the girls. With splashes and a struggle to make it through the water, Adeline followed suit.
"Get back!" Peter shouted as he pulled out his sword.
Adeline did the same, feeling safer with Solis in her hand. As she made it to shore, both wolves had turned their attention to them. Her heart was racing but she swallowed back her fear and reached for her magic inside of her, the response quicker than it had ever been before.
"Come on!" one of the wolves taunted, Adeline recognized that voice, it was the same wolf that had cornered them at the waterfall.
"We've already been through this before." the second wolf barked loudly and Peter frantically held his sword up, "We both know you haven't got it in you."
Adeline pointed her dagger at the leader, allowing her blue wisps to entangle the dagger just in case he decided to strike.
"Peter, Adeline!" Susan cried, "Watch out!"
At that moment, the second wolf, who Adeline had turned away from for a moment pounced. Quickly Adeline recalled her training, her muscle memory proving useful as she called upon her magic with her free hand and reached out towards the wolf. The wolf was showered in blue light as her magic grabbed ahold of him mid-air and flung him to the ground. She held out her hand to the wolf, holding him in place.
Frantically her eyes swept to Peters, who was still concentrating on the leader.
Suddenly the cries of animals and stamping of hooves filled the clearing. Aslan had arrived with Orieus and other talking creatures.
Orieus pulled out his sword to strike but Aslan growled, "No! Stay your weapons. This is their Majesties battle."
Adeline sheathed Solis and held out her second hand against the wolf as it struggled to move. They were all watching and whatever she did she knew she couldn't disappoint her people.
"You may think you're a king," the wolf circled Peter, "but you're going to die, like a dog!
The wolf attacked, jumping onto Peter with a growl.
"No!" Adeline screamed, blood rushed in her ears as the wolf engulphed Peter's form, the boy laying on the ground. Adeline wanted to see if he was alright but she willed her feet to stay grounded, holding onto her magic and the second wolf.
