A Silence in the Library

"SILENCE in the library!

It should be quiet, no doubt!

Gossiping is forbidden

Talk or yell, and I'll pout"

"Yes, teaching is excused

And learning is, too."

"Ah, but so should be running

Especially when there's something behind you

That's lurking in your shadow

Stalking you as prey

Then tell me that screaming

For help isn't okay."

Interrupted a strange man

Who appeared out of thin air

"What is this?! Who are you?

You're being a distraction, I swear

I'll have you kicked out

Without a chance to say adieu."

"Madame, there's no need for that

Just, please, look behind you."

The librarian turned around

And, to her surprise,

She saw a creature with talons

And empty sockets for eyes

"What is THAT!?!" she screeched

Not knowing she broke her own rules

"That is a Silence

They're unnoticeable, like ghouls.

I got your message loud and clear

'Silence in the library!'

I came as fast as I could

My noise will only be temporary."

The librarian not understanding

The Silence's great ability,

She turned to the Doctor

And forgot the monster entirely

"Why are you still here?

You're giving me a headache!" She paused.

"Miss, there's a reason for that

You really should be told of the cause."

Stubborn as she was,

The librarian kicked him to the door.

A second passed. She screamed.

But the Doctor had already forgotten what he went there for.
