Family meetings are the worst. They bore the hell out of me and to no surprise, we never get anywhere with our debates. Leah, Barney and I are all waiting round the table, impatiently waiting for our parents to return home. I fiddle with my necklace as I watch the other two being to squabble as if they were the youngest. Today, the meeting was called whilst our parents were at work; Father had called up saying it was urgent and that they'd return as soon as possible. That was three hours ago. I could've been picking out a school but no, I have to wait here with these idiots.

"They're taking too long, we should just leave." Leah suggests.

"Are you dense? Dad said we had to wait, or there would be consequences." Barney replies.

"Oh woe it's me, Barney, Daddies favourite child who doesn't dare to break the rules." she mocks.

"Listen here you little arse-" and with that the two of them begin their pointless remarks, going back and forwards, hurting each other's feelings over meaningless words. Over, and over, and over again.

I let out a quiet growl, "Will you two shut up!?" I snap, glaring at the two of them.

"Oh I'm sorry little bro, do you want us to apologise like proper siblings?" Leah says with extremely obvious sarcasm.

"No, I don't care about that. Just, if you two weren't squabbling maybe you would've heard the car." I state, instantly sapping their argumentative state to that of worry as they both settle down and wait for our parents to walk through the door.

. . .

Creak.

We all look towards the door. Standing there is our mother but... I can't see Dad anywhere... our patient faces turn to confusion as she closes the door and glares at us with disappointment.

"Mum what-" Barney starts before she glares at him, "Sorry- Mother, where's Father? Weren't you two together?"

She smirks, "That fool is dead." she says with no remorse or sadness.

I gape at her in utter shock; I guess the other did too as Mum rolls her eyes, "What? He knew of the consequences, he accepted them and died quickly upon removing his bracelet. There's nothing to be shocked about."

"Why would he remove his bracelet? How could he?" Leah shouts, hands slamming on the table in anger.

"Tell me this; if bribed or influenced, would you remove your earrings?" she asks sinisterly.

"Absolutely not! Why would I ever think of doing such a thing?" she replies with force.

"Well, that's the same thing your Father said. Yet here we are, he was tempted by someone and removed his bracelet forgetting the deal he made was permanent."

Silence. I can't fully believe what's being said. We all know the rule of our containers, or accessories as we're forced to say. We were given them at birth, in Leah's case, as soon as she could get her ears pierced. I hated lugging this necklace around, for some reason its magic used to go haywire, causing mood swings and out bursts of violence. I've got it under control for the most part now but I can never understand why it only happened to me... I continue to glare at Mum, why did she do this to us? We could've lived normal lives if we didn't have these stupid items.

"Jake?" I look up to see her staring at me, "If I remember correctly you need to choose a school, if you can't decide you'll lose control of your magic again, and none of us want a repeat of last time. Do we?"

I look away; does this bitch really need to bring that up again? That was six years ago, I hate how she thinks I'd make the same mistakes as my nine year old self.

"I've got a school in mind, I just need to be accepted there so can you stop bringing it up?" I growl, why is there so much pressure on me, don't the other two get scolded? Don't the other two get looked down on? Why is it only me?

"Now now, no need to be so animalistic. It was just a question." She replies.

No one moves. No one speaks. We're all silent as Mother walks back to the door. She opens it. She waits... turning towards us once again, staring me dead in the eyes she gives me that bloody evil smirk as she leaves. As soon as the door closes I hear laughter, they're laughing at me.

"Hah! You still can't get your shit together? How pathetic!" Leah jabs.

I stand up, and glare at them, "Stop it! I'll become a better mage than either of you! So you'd better stop mocking me before it's too late." I threaten . . . an outburst of laughter comes from them so I storm off not wanting to be in the same room as those arseholes any longer.

"I'll show them... I'm not weak." I mutter.
