.。・゚゚・☆・゚゚・。.after a quiet, wordless lunch with only pedro, and an even quieter afternoon, cass was laying outside in the grass trying to ground herself from her emotional delirium and staring at the cloudy offwhite sky, she heard the phone ring. jumping at the first sign of something in the house, she ran inside and answered the phone.
"salut?"
"cass? merde, c'est hélo."
"hélo, oh my god. i'm gonna move to the kitchen because this is a mess and i don't want l'invité to hear."
"l'invite? what the fuck ha-" she heard hélo say before her voice was cut off by cass's race into the kitchen, getting the phone off the hook and racing back to the other phone, hanging up there and going back to pick the one in the kitchen.
"cass what happened? did he do anything?" hélo asked, curious about the sudden lack of interest in cass's voice as she spoke about her supposedly insatiable crush.
"not really. we uh- we went out with theo and pierre and he slept with this girl and i slept with a friend of pierre's just to get back at him and-"
"woah, cass? are you good?"
hélo's question brought her back to earth from her rambling state. she noticed the crack in her voice and her sniffling, and she started talking quieter, in fear that pedro would hear her even if she was all the way in the kitchen.
"yeah, i guess." she paused for a beat, trying to find the words to say. she sighed, trying to calm her tears.
"i realized that it's never gonna happen. i'm too young for him."
"i- shit, you're not wrong cass, but you can still have a crush on him and wait 'til you're older."
she tried to hold back a sob, feeling the tears well up in her eyes. "see? that's the problem, hélo." cass paced back and forth, holding the phone to where the cable reached and walking back, taking a few deep breaths to try to find her composure. don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.
"i can't do that. i can't keep pining over him for him to be absolutely oblivious to everything that i'm trying to do for him. just for him." cass sniffled, sitting down on one of the chairs and continuing. "and what hurts most is that i wanna stay in that little cloud that keeps me in that little daze where i'm absolutely in love with him and there is a possibility that he loves me back and we'll be together but he doesn't. he like pretty blonde girls with nice smiles, not me."
"hey! i'm blonde, don't bash on us because we're the beauty standard."
cass chuckled, "god, but you don't understand! it was clearly dyed, yes, but it was beautiful! she had all these layers and highlights in the perfect places to the point where this morning when she was leaving i was literally about to ask her what her hairdresser's number was!"
she heard hélo's laugh through the phone which was a bit comforting.
"i feel like such a child," cass sighed, "just when i felt like i had my shit together, he just... comes and tumbles everything down."
"i know, but like everyone else, you can get over him." hélo reassured. "you remember when you had a crush on that senior boy who was with you in that play when you were a junior?"
cass cringed at the memory, remembering the hopeless crush she had on her costar in the rocky horror picture show. it didn't help that she was janet and he was brad and they played love interests. it took her ages to cope with the ending of the show and even more with his leaving for college.
