"Bro! This is your partner for the night. Enjoy!" And he left."Shit!"
"Shit" they said together.Shravan looked at Chidiya and unknowingly adored her. She turned to look at him and bang an eye lock. Well that was what supposedly happened, but that didn't happen. She averted her eyes and looked here and there. Finally, Shravan broke the ice.
"Hi!" He said rubbing his neck.
"Hi!" Though she found his hi very cute but still the awkwardness was there.
"So," he was nervous clearly.
"So?" She raised her eyebrows.
"I...didn't..." He tried forming a sentence
"You didn't, what?" She gave him a chance
"I didn't expect meeting you like this." He said it finally and regretted immediately. What were you expecting Shravan? You're such a gullible human you'll either be shocked or awkward to meet her.
"I didn't expect you to come barging at my place as well." She chuckled trying to lighten.
"Yeah! About that. I came to meet Nanaji." Slow but steady the conversation began.
"How do you know him?"
"I'm lawyer, if you remember that is."
"How can I forget!" She murmured. She could not forget anything about him. Not even his voice though she hadn't heard him since months.
"Yeah! I was saying, I'm a lawyer and Mr Raghuvir Tiwari is my idol."
"That's great. But why do you call him Nanaji?"
"Because he asked me to."
"Oh! That's good."
"Umm... I saw you at mall parking with Anjali."
"I know. And I'm sorry about your car."
"Its okay. That's not about it. I wanted to know how you know Anjali."
"You know what! It should have been my question."
"Oh! At first I didn't recognise her bit then I met her here again. She is my old schoolmate." They were into the conversation as always not feeling a bit awkward now.
"What?"
"What?"
"She is my schoolmate too."
"Does that mean we were in same school?" He questioned with shocking realization.
"Of course! Dumbo! I can't believe this."
"I can."
"Huh!"
"I never noticed any other girl except her."
"Oh! Yeah! Your one true love." She didn't know why was she being bitter about her. Is this jealousy?
"Look! I had wanted to apologize for a long time now. "
"Its okay. I understand. And I think it was necessary. By the way I'm meeting him today, tonight... whatever."
"You mean, he is here?" Oh my he is here. But I don't want her to meet him.
"Yeah!"
"Wow! She is also here."
"The square is completed finally. We should celebrate. Yay! Life."
"I like your sarcasm."
"And I like my life. Its like I'm the villain of my own story."
"Hahahaha! Mutual feelings baby! Hahahaha!" He laughed and the words flew. He had been calling her baby since they shifted to WhatsApp. Earlier it was because of her cribbing like baby but then it became natural.
"You have to stop calling me that."
"Yeah! Understood."
"Mingle with others too. I should go find him."
"I think I need to look for her also. Should surprise the firecracker."
"You mean " patakha" you know using this word for a girl is not complimenting."
"No not that way. Her grandfather calls her that. You know she can burst anywhere and anytime like a firecracker."
"One day I will meet her and tell her all the things you say about her on her back."
"But I don't want to meet that guy." Shravan said honestly.
"Why?"
"Because I might punch him for running away and making you upset for these many years." There was pin drop silence between them. They were looking in each others eyes with affection, longing, accusation and hurt.
She said very quietly,
"Everyone runs away from me. Maa, Papa, friends, relatives, him and you." And left him standing there alone in the swarm of people. He was met by Pushkar a few minutes later, who introduced him to a friend and also a client. After that he found Eric who was busy flirting with a girl. He took him to the side and asked him to keep him company. Eric was brooding like a child now. But suddenly something caught his attention.
"Isn't that Chi-diya?"
"Yes!"
"Who is she hugging and talking to? Aren't you bothered? Any signs of jealousy?"
"No!" He said so but the way he was boring glares into the head of the man she was talking to he was definitely jealous. Is he the guy she talks about always? What if they patch up? What if after their patch up he hurts her? What if I'm not there to hold her? What if I had actually loved her but as Eric says I'm too stuck with Sumo to realize it? Oh! My mind is bursting.
Then only Pushkar came and took Shravan to the Dance floor and held a mic.
"Hello! Hello! Everyone! Attention please. Bring your Attention to the two most handsome men here. Just kidding, don't look at me like that. I'm going to tell you the occasion of this party. My brother. My idol. My bhaiya. He is back from London after ten years. Its a call for celebration. So presenting you.... Hey where did he go? Bhaiya!....... Oh! Here he is.
Here he is, The Shravan Malhotra. Applause!Suman was hearing him and when she saw who he was referring as Shravan she was shocked out of her brains. She was relieved somewhat. But Shavan is Shravan? How?
"And and and, I also want to thank the lady who organized this party in my absence my best friend Suman Tiwari that is our beloved Sumo."
Pushkar zoomed his way among people took her hand and brought her to the floor alongside Shravan. He was shocked and was looking at her with big eyes almost protruding. Is it again my imagination? Sumo and Chidiya are same. My Chidiya is my Sumo only. My Chidiya? My Sumo? Shravan are you still not going to accept your own feelings. I'm your brain I know better than you.
Pushkar gave Suman's hand to Shravan and thus the dance floor was open. But Shravan just looked in her eyes even as people filed in dancing, he didn't waiver. He wanted his answer.
"Sumo?"
"Hmm!" Her hum was enough for him and he run away.
Run Shravan run. His heart asked.
What next? Huh! I'll give you a chance to decide.
