Joel

ELLIE'S POV

"Joel! Logan! Tommy!" I screamed their names hoping they could hear me.

I saw a big mansion with its lights on. I went inside and heard grunting. The closer I got to the basement the louder they got.

I saw a girl with a braid hitting Joel, and I tried to get my gun out to shoot her, but i got tackled by some other people. Cutting one of the guys faces, he started kicking me in the stomach.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!"
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!!"
A guy came in and sound began to distort as all i saw was Joel's body and when I looked to the left my heart was broken.

I saw Logan's lifeless body. His face was bloody.
"LEAVE THEM ALONE!"
"IM GONNA FUCKING KILL YOU."

Some more guys came in.

"Who is that?"
"She snuck in!"
"Why aren't you posted up outside?!"

They're arguments faded as I saw the girl turn to Logan and start beating his body with a golf club, but he wasn't moving.

"LOGAN FUCKING GET UP!"
"PLEASE STOP!"
"PLEASE DONT DO THIS!"

All i remember seeing after that is the girl smashing Joel's head in with a golf club, killing him.
"NOOOOO!!!!"
"YOU'RE GONNA FUCKING DIE!"
After that, i got my face kicked in.

I awoke to Dina's voice.

"Ellie..."
"Jesse, they're down here!"

"Joel..." I started to get up.
"I'm sorry Joel."

I turned to Logan who was still laying on the ground.
Blood coming out of his nose and mouth. His face bruised. Blood coming out of his leg.
"Logan, please wake up. I'm sorry."

--Time Skip--
LOGAN'S POV
I woke up with a killer headache, seeing Ellie looking at me with tears, running her hand through my hair.
"Ellie." I sat up.
"Be careful Logan, you're hurt."
"Is Joel uhm..."
"Yea."
My hands started shaking, and I was breathing quicker.

After a few minutes I calmed down. There was a knock on the door and I went to get it, but It hurt to walk.
"Stay there, you need rest." Ellie got up to the door
"Fuck." I said under my breath as I remembered what had happened the night before.
I stood up, leaning on my non injured leg.
"Logan." She looked at me, worried.
"I'm fine."
She opened the door and saw Tommy.
"Maria wants to make sure you're eating." He handed her a container.
It got silent.
"Come in Tommy." I walked up to him.
We let him in and closed the door.
I sat down on the bed.
"She can't stop us." I said out loud.
"To have the guys, that we would need. We would be leaving Jackson vulnerable."
"We can go on our own." I crossed my arms.
"Look, you don't know how large that group is, how armed-"
"I don't care." Ellie chimed in.
"If it were any of us, Joel would be half way to Seattle already." I said standing up.
"No he wouldn't"
"He absolutely fucking would be." I said looking down.
"We're not even sure that they're from Seattle."
"Washington Liberation Front. That's what we saw on those patches." I was getting irritated at Tommy.
"What if the WLF moved?"
"What are you doing?!" Ellie stood up.
It grew silent.
"Alright just- give me the day to talk to Maria."
Ellie and I nodded and Tommy gave Ellie a hug as I sat down on the bed.

"Jesus fucking christ." I said while looking down.
Ellie came up to me and put her arms around me but I didn't react.
"I wanna visit Joel's grave tomorrow." I said, sitting back down on the bed.
"Okay."
I stayed quiet.

After a minute I spoke up.
"Ellie?"
"Yeah?" I felt her glare but I started at my hands.
"Why weren't you on speaking terms with Joel?" I already knew but wanted to make sure it was true.
"Oh, uhm." She sat up.
"Well you know how we got to the fireflies."
"Yeah we made it."
"Well, they were about to, you know, use me to make a vaccine. But Joel killed them all. Stopping them from doing that, because it would kill me." She looked at her hands as she spaced out her words, taking a deep breath in between them.
"Oh."

It was silent for a few minutes until Ellie spoke.
"Hey, so. Where were you, before you came here?"
I gathered my thoughts.
"Well. I woke up, and saw all the dead soldiers. But right after I got knocked out. When I came to i saw a group of people, standing over me. They took me to some base, it looked like an old mansion. They were looking for Joel, and you, asking me where you went. I didn't give you up so... they uh- they tortured me. They whipped me, they cut me, they burned cigarettes off on my body. But then, last year, I found a way to escape. So i did. And came here." My words got shaky as I was holding in tears.
"Oh, Logan." Ellie put her head on my shoulder and started to sniff.
"It's fine." I got up, not wanting to get hurt by feeling Ellie's affection
"Where are you going?" She got up too.
"I need to go for a walk."
"But your leg."
"I'm fine, Ellie." I put my jacket and boots on and walked out. Limping away.

I went to Joel's house and sat on the front steps, crying.
