Santa Barbara

I told Ellie we were leaving during the night, but I lied. I said that so she would have to stay with Dina and JJ. I don't feel great about it, but it's better this way.

She was asleep, so I got up, getting ready in the kitchen but I heard footsteps.

It was Dina.

"What're you doing?" She said quietly.
"I'm going to Santa Barbara." I didn't make eye contact as I filled my backpack.
"What about Ellie?"
"Just, keep her here for me, okay? She doesn't need to be doing this kind of shit anymore."
There was silence as I stood up, facing Dina.
"Please Dina, stay here with her. Take care of her for me."
Dina's eyes began to water as she hugged me.
"Okay." She couldn't say anything more.
"Tell her I love her." I hugged her back.
As she pulled away, she nodded, and I walked out the door, not knowing if I would ever make it back.

ELLIE'S POV

I woke up, but I was in our bed alone. I thought it was strange but maybe Logan was downstairs.
I got up and went downstairs, seeing Dina holding JJ, just staring at the table.
"Hey, have you seen Logan?" I asked her, making her burst into tears.
"Woah, Dina are you okay?"
"Yeah, just... Logan's gone."
"What do you mean by gone?" My heart started beating quick.
"He left. Told me not to let you leave. And that he loves you."
I knew exactly where he went, but I couldn't move. I just started to cry, the hardest i've cried in five years.

Since I lost him the first time.

--Time Skip in Logan's POV--

It's been about a week and a half, I had made it to Santa Barbara on horse. It was probably the worst horse ride i've ever had, but i made it nonetheless.

I couldn't stop thinking about Ellie, how I left her.

I ended up in this nice looking neighborhood.

"Imagine living here in the old world" I said under my breath as I kept going down the street on the horse.

I started to hear clicking of infected, trying to get away from them but they ambushed the horse so I got off, falling down the side of a cliff.

After a few seconds of trying to stand, my leg got pulled by a rope that had been on the ground, swinging me upside down between two trees. One of the trees had a large point coming out of it, and it stabbed me in the side, leaving me to pass out.

I came to, seeing a fuzzy outline of a person.
"Ellie?" I asked weak, with blood running down  on my face from the wound on my side.
As the person walked towards I saw it was two instead of one. They were both males, but one was fat, and older, while the other looked fit and young.

"We got a live one." The bigger one said.

I looked to the side seeing a clicker also hung right next to me.

"Fuck you." I said, as the bigger one cut me down and the younger one grabbed me.

The younger one tried pushing me into the clicker, but i pushed him into it, killing him. I did feel a pinch on my hand though.

"Oh shit!" The bigger guy tried to shoot me, but I was still standing behind the now dead body of the younger guy, using the sub machine gun he had on his back, to shoot the leg of the bigger guy.

"Where is Abby?" I said as I walked up to the bigger guy, who was now on the floor.
"I don't know any Abby! I-I swear!" He was scared as I pointed the SMG at him.
"Where the fuck is she?!" I shouted, feeling pain in my side as I got louder.
"We caught a blonde girl! Arms like mine! I can get you there before you turn!" He pointed to my hand.
As I looked I saw a bite mark. I started panicking in my head, but kept my composure enough to shoot the bigger guy in the chest.

"Oh shit, I'm infected." I said, leaning on a rock.
"Fuck it, I still gotta do this." I said as I stitched myself up with a needle and thread from my backpack.
I wiped off the blood on my hand and grabbed a fabric, wrapping my hand.

--Time Skip--

It had been about a day, but I felt the exact same, sometimes forgetting sometimes that I had been bitten.
But then I remembered it takes two days, not one.

I had found this abandoned railroad, and a big estate, looking place.

There where people who were recently infected, tied to chains from the ground.
They group here infected people and tied them up. It was fucked up. It almost made me
feel bad for the infected.

'Abby better not be infected' I thought to myself as I walked through the pool house area, taking out soldiers silently.

I ended up in what looked like the main house. It was surrounded by soldiers and chained infected.
As I made my way through the house I saw a prison cell, and a bunch of people inside.

"Have you guys seen Abby?" I asked them.
"Let us out of here." A few started saying, so I shot the lock.
"Where is Abby?" I asked one of the guys, as they all grabbed guns from a drawer.
"She's by the pillars-"
He pointed outside to the beach.
"She's probably dead by now."
I nodded, and waited for all of the prisoners to leave the room for me to go to the pillars.
As I walked towards the beach, I heard explosions and shouting behind me.

Seeing a bunch of people tied up to tall pillars was a horrifying scene.

I looked around for Abby and finally saw her. She looked malnourished, dirty and her hair was short.

"You." She said weakly as I cut her down from the pillar.

Instead of turning to me she walked towards another person. It was the kid from the theater.
She cut him down and walked up to me.

"The boats are this way." She pointed behind me and walked, laying the boy on the boat.

"You know I can't let you leave." I said, but she kept tying the boy to the boat.
"I'm not doing this." She looked at me.
"Do it, or he dies." I walked up to the boy, putting my knife up to his neck.
"He's not a part of this." She said.
"You made him a part of this."
"Okay."

Abby and I got ready to fight, trading hits.

I was able to get her on the ground, her face under the water.

As I started to choke her, I thought of Joel, and Ellie.

I started to cry while choking her, but I let go. Not wanting to continue the circle of violence.

"Just fucking go." I said, sitting on the ground, water reaching my ankles.

She looked at me, taking one of the two boats with her.

I sat there for a few minutes, crying, looking at the bite mark on my hand.

"I love you Ellie." I said as I laid down, my body shutting down, and my eyes feeling heavy.

"See you soon, Joel."

I closed my eyes.
