Este rolled the marble-like orb in the palm of his hand.
He gained his vision at the age of 12, in a very desperate situation. If the vision hadn't manifested he would definitely be dead.
Even now Este can say with confidence he was surprised at the element. He had honestly been expecting pyro.
Fire would have fit with him rather well.
All his friends and acquaintances know Este has a temper a mile long if you push the right buttons.
He can quite easily blow up like a volcano and rant in anger for hours on end, and with his volatile temperament he can stay mad at someone because of a petty fight for ages. He can hold a grudge for even longer.
Este is aggressive if you know how to press his buttons. But he is often surprisingly calm when not angered deliberately.
If someone avoids his buttons, Este can stay vigilant and very calm for a long time. He is usually know to be mature, with his temper ranging from hot as lava to cold as Dragonspine.
Yes he is mature for his physical age, but Este still expected a pyro vision.
It was the most common type, and he had a personality that fit.
Visions were achievements. They were proof of what kind of person you were, and they cemented a person's place rather high on the social hierarchy.
Visions were the envy of the common people.
Because of the situation he got his vision in, his elemental skills mainly headed to healing.
Healing and a slight minor in offense.
What he could determine to be his elemental skill was the ability to heal. He could manifest a ring around himself, and whatever damage was inflicted upon Este was absorbed by that ring and in that time multiplied and turned to regenerate him and others.
The closest he could compare it to was Beidou's skill. But where as Beidou used the absorbed damage to enhance her offence, Este converted that into healing.
His burst was more akin to Kaeya's, just larger in size and with two chunks swirling around him. Now that Este properly thought about it, it looked really similar.
In the end Este would still be considered mainly a healer by genshin standards.
Este could go on and on about the limits of genshin skills, because he certainly was not in a reality limited to this one skill and one burst.
Visions of this world are versatile, and while the two he could define as his in-game skills were notably stronger than other things he could do with his vision, the fact remained Este could actually do more.
Este could form a shield, he could enhance his weapon or apply his element to his enemies. It was just that his shield wasn't the best, he wasn't too good at applying the effect on his sword and a battle wasn't a good time to close your eyes to concentrate on applying his element on others.
His talent just laid with healing apparently.
And that left Este with one big whopping problem.
He had started proper sword training at age 10, after his father finally started investing in Este's education a little more. He had a tutor in one of the more experienced knights of Favonious with a vision himself.
The man even sometimes hosted group training with other tutors, notably Kaeya's tutor.
But while Este knew a little of the sword, Veera knew a lot about guns and Nicolas a lot about daggers and a bit about bows...
He knew nothing about a catalyst. The weapon he was probably the most suitable for.
In the first place wasn't catalyst a weapon for people with stable income? Or some kind of inheritance?
Ningguang was filthy rich, Klee was probably sponsored by Jean or got one of Alice's old Catalysts. Lisa had a stable job as the librarian, Sucrose probably got good income as an alchemist.
Yan-fei obviously had a high income job, and Barbara was the fucking deaconess. If Barbara didn't have money as an adult, Este would riot.
Who else had a catalyst?
Este rubbed his chin. Even Mona's catalyst could be explained away as something she had gotten from her master so no money was involved there.
Este glanced up at the sky.
His sword will have to do for now.
