She walked slow and steady following closely to the deep controlling baritone of a man in charge and the frantic cries of a group lost.
"Rick, I can't find carl! I can't find him please! Tyreese! Help me! Carl!"
Beth heard the terrified feminine voice shout out as she picked up her pace.
"Lori!"
Then came the tell tale sounds of walker flesh hitting the pavement, and gunshots blaring.
Beth came to find a group of somewhere around four or five men and women surrounded by walkers being backed into the convenience store.
Looking over to her right she was drawn to the pre teenage boy taking out walkers sloppily as more and more surrounded him.
This must be the carl that the older woman was shouting for.
She quickly pulled out the knife that was holstered to her hip and began taking down the clump of walkers ganging up on the poor kid.
As one came dangerously close to her neck she found herself covered in it's blood.
Looking up she spotted her oldest friend Noah crouched in the tree directly across from her.
"Noah!" She shouted as she watched the boy who's name was carl close the doors to the parking lot security box, soundly locking himself inside.
Noah was quick to shoot the rest of the walkers surrounding her and carl as he hopped out of the tree.
"Hey bee, need a little help?" He gestured towards the door where carl was shaking inside of.
Beth wrapped her arms around the tall African American boy squeezing him as he hugged back.
Noah was like a second brother to her. He'd moved with her to two different foster homes, and looked out for her. She had met up with him once after the walker apocalypse had hit but he had Been frantic about finding some family he had lost in Georgia. He asked her to come but she couldn't not after losing her little brother.
Pulling apart he smiled
"I've been looking for you, need someone to help survive this thing with."
She nodded bumping his fist and smiling.
Suddenly carl screamed from inside of the glass box as a walker tried to make it's way inside. Noah pulled his gun before Beth put a finger to her mouth shaking her head.
The gunshot would just cause more to follow.
She moved fast sticking her knife into the dark haired walkers head. She opened the doors o the box slowly and reached a Hand out for the boy.
"Hey there , you're carl right? My names Beth and this here's Noah" he gestured behind her , Noah gave a quick wave and a friendly smile.
"We gotta get you back to your mama, I heard her hollerin' for you. You wanna come out?"
Carl stared wide eyed for a few seconds before shaking It off and nodding quickly.
"Yeah no yeah , of course. I'm really sorry for lock in' myself in here and leavin ya out there on your own. Just ran out of bullets is all."
Beth nodded smiling.
Noah piped up
"That's alright, let's just get goin. Looks like it's about to rain." He looked up.
The three made there way back to the front of the parking lot to find the group of people spread it surrounded by a mass of dead walkers.
"Carl!" Both the man and woman were shouting.
Carl gently pushed past Beth and Noah grabbing into his pregnant mothers waist.
The two orphans smiled at the scene.
"Carl! Baby! Where did you go? You should've stayed by your father." Speaking his name the one in charge moved behind the boy grabbing his shoulders and and squeezing him.
"Good boy."
"It was Beth and Noah who did all the work, I just hid like a damn coward."
He said dissapointed.
Beth moved forward coming closer to the group.
"What you did was really smart. Don't discount bein smart for bein a coward. It's being smart that'll save your behind."
Rick looked up at Beth and Noah who had joined her side ruffling Carls hair.
"Beth and Noah" Rick questioned squinting through the rain.
"Yes sir." She answered cautiously.
He was older. Not old but older than her.
Both Noah and Beth hadn't had the Best of luck when it came to older adult figures.
"thank you so much for saving my baby." Carls Mother shouted over the rain.
"Rick." He stated sticking his hand out as both of them shook it.
"The rains getting pretty bad, I don't know where you two are staying but we have a base set up just a few miles away. You're more than welcome to stay."
Beth looked over to Noah who shrugged his shoulders smiling.
"Alright " she shouted over the wind and rain. "Just til' the storm passes."
They made there way to what looked like an old prison, an iron fence covering the building.
Walking into the building , Beth noticed it was pretty populated. there were a few families and some older couples. She nearly tumbled over a toddler on the floor playing with a race car. Some teenagers were reading out of date pop magazines and older men were fixing up doors and sinks.
Noah nudged her shoulder to get her to pay attention. Rick was explain things.
"And you two can stay in one of the family beds or we can check empty cells I know we have quite a few." He said seemingly sad about the open cells, she figured the people who used to live in the cells had lost there battle.
"No" both her and Noah said at the Same time.
"No thankyou." Beth corrected.
"We'll just stay on the floor by the doors we won't be here too long thank you for everything though." She smiled walking around as Noah followed close behind.
"Feels like we're moving into a new foster home don't it?" He smiled pushing her shoulder as she put her bag down.
She smiled sadly "yeah but we ain't were only staying until the storm stops, then well find somewhere new to stay I think I saw a group of houses a couple of towns over."
He nodded "I gotta pee, catch ya in a few."
She moved to look around the prison when she heard a group of people arguing in what looked like an office.
" we don't have enough room to house any one else sheriff."
Came from a Middle Aged man with bright red hair.
"I'm gunna have to agree with the redneck on this one." Came the softer voice of an older woman with short gray hair.
"We struggle to get by as is. I just don't think we should be takin two complete strangers in." Came a young short haired brunette holding a skinny Asians hand.
They all directed their opinions at Rick. Who eventually spoke up
"She saved my boys life. We owe her." He looked over to the corner in a place Beth couldn't see.
" Daryl , what do you think?"
The huskiest voice Beth had ever heard came out.
"It's just another mouth to feed. Let em stay, they won't last long anyway."
Rick sighed.
Beth couldn't take much more.
Walking calmly into the room she stood in the doorway.
" hi."she started
"I'm Beth and the I'm one part of the group y'all are so nervous about let tin' stay. I can tell you we won't be any inconvenience. Rick here asked us to stay and we plan on it. And before y'all get your panties in a bunch it ain't forever just until this storm stops. 2 days at most. We won't take none of your space and we can get our own food. Thanks for let tin' us stay in your home. We sure are grateful. Hope to see y'all later." She smiled sweet as sugar before walking out leaving everyone slack jawed and shocked.
No one noticed Daryl literally drooling over the spunky blonde.
" did we just get sassed by Safari guide Barbie?" Glenn questioned from the back of the group.
Daryl coming out of his daze laughed
"We sure did boy. We sure did."
