"What do you think? Do you think we'll be happy?"  my mom asked as we both looked around our new, small but comfortable house in Detroit.

I walked around the living room a bit as I looked at everything thinking about my mom's question "I think if we want to, we will be"  I smiled at her to reassure her a bit.

It didn't take long for her to smile back, I knew my words were calming her down, my mom felt guilty for as she said 'letting go of my grandparents and my friends in Texas ' but I knew this job was a big opportunity for her

"Tomorrow do you want me to drive you to your new school? I can do it before I leave for work"  my mom looked at me waiting for an answer "I'll get up earlier, I swear"  she raised her hand as if making an oath.

"No mom, tomorrow you have to make the best impression and that means not being late, I can leave without a problem to school"  I smiled "I will go to my room to sleep, I am tired and tomorrow we both have to get up very early"

"Ok baby, as you wish"  she came closer leaving a little kiss on my forehead to go straight to her room that was upstairs while my room was downstairs.

"Rather you don't want me to come over in the afternoon to your work to eat lunch together just in case you hate everyone at your job?" I asked her as I watched her walk up the stairs.

My mom turned to look at me and smiled amused "I'm an adult I can handle lunch alone if I don't take anyone with me. Now go to sleep Rory" she smiled at me and finished walking up the stairs.

I lied, I wanted her to take me and it was like kindergarten where your mom would stay with you if you were scared but I wouldn't tell her that, I didn't want to give her any more pressure than I was sure she already had by starting a new job as a hotel manager.

I unpacked what I needed to sleep and for school tomorrow.
As I went to bed I sighed thinking about how my life had changed so fast, I was scared but I was here.
I was turning my back to the door when I heard it open and seconds later the side of my bed collapsed and I was hugged.

"I lied, please come tomorrow when you get out of school to have lunch with me" my mother said as she hugged me.

I smiled instantly knowing she had lied to me too.  I settled in letting her hug me "ok, I can go to lunch with you only if you get up early tomorrow morning and if you drive me to school".

"I knew it" she let out a giggle "sure baby" we were silent for a while even though I knew she wasn't asleep either, neither was going to get any sleep today.

"Mom.." I whispered as I looked at my bedroom wall "I'm scared, what if no one likes me tomorrow?"

"What? You're the nicest girl I know, it's impossible for anyone not to like you" she smiled "it will be okay baby" she left a small kiss on my head "now let's go to sleep or well, pretend to sleep."

"And I guess as always you are going to sleep with me in my single bed instead of using your double bed right?" I denied amused when my mom just let out an affirmative sound and hugged me more. "Goodnight mom."

"Goodnight Rory" she whispered.
There we were again, being each other's support as always for as long as I can remember, just me and her.

My mom had me at 16, dad is sometimes present and sometimes disappears. My mom never stopped working to get me through so when she was offered this great opportunity I encouraged her not to hesitate and take it.
I fell fast asleep thinking about it.
