I woke up to a soft kiss on the lips and smiled. My eyes fluttered open as I looked at Ace, heart melting.
"Good morning. Sleep well?" he murmured, kissing me again.
"Slept perfectly like always when I'm with you. Did you sleep well?" I asked.
He grinned, running a hand through my hair, fingers brushing against my cheek and making me feel weak.
"Like a baby. I've got a surprise planned for you today! I want to take you on a date," he said.
I giggled, wrapping my arms around him. "That's not a surprise! We've been together for like two years now, we go on dates all the time!" I teased.
He smiled, strong arms slipping around my waist. "I know. But this one's going to be a special date," he said with a wink.
"Well now you've got me curious. When're we going out?" I asked, rolling over so I was lying on top of his chest.
"Tonight. Well, this afternoon and then tonight. I was thinking just room service for breakfast?" he asked.
I yawned, resting my head on his shoulder and closing my eyes.
"Can we sleep for a bit more?"
"Now why are you sleepy? I'm the one who had to put on a whole concert," he teased, kissing me gently.
"Shh. I'm resting," I said, putting a finger on his lips.
We laid in silence for awhile, me lying on top of him while he rubbed my back almost absentmindedly. I was very curious as to what the date tonight would be! At the same time, I was oh so very content to be resting in his arms for the time being. But at last hunger won over and after Ace kept teasing me about my stomach growling I slid out of bed with him.
Room service was nice and we happily shared a stack of waffles, him still dropping mysterious hints about tonight.
"You can't keep being such a tease! Just tell me what it is!" I begged.
He shook his head, grinning. "Can't, love. It's a secret."
"Must it be?" I asked, and he nodded.
"It must. Now come on! You need to get showered for tonight."
"So do you. Guess we should shower together to save time," I said with a grin.
Ace smiled back, setting aside the now empty plate and giving me a kiss. I could almost taste the syrup on his lips before he pulled me to my feet.
"Let's get going then love."
We took a shower together, spending as much time making out as we did getting washed up. After we stepped out of the shower, he brushed my hair for me despite me telling him it wasn't necessary. He did it every time I took a shower and although I told him he didn't have to, on the inside I loved that he did it and never wanted him to stop.
I was still no closer to figuring out what his surprise for me tonight was once we had both gotten dressed, but he took my hand, leading me to his car.
"Where are we going?" I asked, and he smiled.
"Oh, you'll see," he said mysteriously, teasing me with a wink.
"This better be good," I grumbled, but I knew I'd love it.
To my surprise, there was a brief flash of panic in his eyes. "I-I think it'll be good. I think you'll like it, I-I really hope you will," he mumbled, all his confidence unraveling.
I felt bad for accidently making him worry and gave him a smile.
"I know I will. I'm only teasing, I'm really--ohh, Ace," I said, finishing in a soft gasp as I recognized the record store we had parked in front of.
"It's um...actually been three years almost exactly since we met here, I thought it'd be fun to come back," he said, giving me a kiss before taking my hand and leading me inside.
He let me buy whatever records I wanted, insisting on paying for them, and we spent many happy hours flipping through the records before he checked out and led me to the car.
"And now for the second part," he said with a shaky smile.
I recognized the restaurant we parked at too and gave him a smile. "Ace!"
"I know it's not super fancy but this was our first date I'd say, and I wanted to take you back here! Today is three years since this date exactly," he said, giving my hand a squeeze.
It wasn't the fanciest of dinners but it didn't matter because I was with the love of my life and couldn't have been happier. The night went perfect and nothing could've made it better, or so I thought.
Once Ace had paid the check and led me outside, he drew to a halt in the parking lot.
"Now I-I know this isn't the most romantic place on the surface but you know it's got meaning and stuff! So Y/N, I guess..."
He trailed off, dropping to one knee and pulling a box out of his pocket. "I guess I'm trying to find a cute way to ask this but I'm not doing so well, so I'll make it simple. Will you marry me?"
I clapped my hands over my mouth, tears leaking from my eyes. "Ace! Yes!" I cried.
He laughed, slipping the ring on my finger and kissing me. "I love you," he murmured.
"I love you more," I countered.
"I love you most!"
