The rest of the week went on rather uneventfully but it didn't surprise me since it was the first week of school. As the last period bell rings, i scrounge all of my things together, walking out the door. As I got closer to my locker I saw Em already waiting there. I smile at her as I put in the combination and began slipping all of my homework in my backpack.
"So there's gonna be a killer party tonight," I just shrug my shoulders, no sign of happiness evident in my gesture. I'm not going to lie and say I don't drink occasionally, it's just that it's always done with just a couple of people. "Oh come on, you have to come to this one, you've
missed all of the awesome ones during the summer!""I know you love the party life, but that's just not my thing." I slam my locker closed and we make our way out of the building.
"But you haven't been to a party since the beginning of junior year!" She whines causing me to roll my eyes. "Can you at least just go to this one so I can prove to you that they aren't as boring as you think." I looked over at her to see her puppy dog eyes and I couldn't help but groan.
" Are you sure your not just pressuring me to go cause you don't want to go by yourself?" I replied, giving her a malicious smile. I knew that there was no way Alex or Jamie would be at a party like that, Jamie's boyfriend probably already has plans with her today and Alex had soccer almost every day. She scoffed and faked a look of hurt and I laughed.
"That may be part of it but I really want you to experience high school before it's over! " She grunts and I sigh, giving in to her endless pleas.
"Fine you win, I'll go with you..," before I could finish my sentence she already began dancing around me, earning us stares from others students as they pass by. I have to hold her by her shoulders and keep her still until I could continue. "I'll go, but only if when we get there and I'm not having a good time, we go home." I finished, crossing my arms and waiting for her agreement.
"That's no problem, because I know that there is no way you will want to leave early when we get there!" She beamed as we made our way to my broken down Toyota Camry. It was a hand-me-down from my uncle when he invested in a new sports car. I threw my book bag in the backseat and sat in the driver-seat, pulling out of the parking lot. As I was about to drop Em off at her house she insisted I should stay so I could borrow her clothes and so she could do my hair and makeup. I grudgingly accepted and proceeded to call my mom to tell her about my plans for the night. I told her about going straight to Emily's house to sleep over, but I left out the part about the party because I knew she would never allow it if she were aware. My parents have never let me go off to parties and I never understand why; they always tell me it's because I'm the only child and such but I know it's because of the boys that will also be attending the parties. I was honestly shocked when they actually let me counsel at the camp over the summer, since I had never been out of the states alone before.
We went inside and I went straight for the kitchen, looking for anything to eat in the fridge. Just as I grasped an apple and water-bottle, Em grabbed hold of my arm and pulled me toward her room.
"We have to start getting ready, there is no time to eat!" She exclaimed, causing me to frown. When we entered the room she shut the door and let go of the tight grip on my hand. "Alright, time for me to work my magic!" She laughed, rubbing her hands together before running to her closet to pull out an ensemble for me. This was going to be a long night, and it hasn't even begun.
**5 hours later**
"There, I think I'm done." Em stated, stepping back to admire her work proudly. We had been at this since we got home and I'm so relieved that I can finally move around and get an actual meal from the fridge besides an apple. I stood up from Em's computer chair and made my way over to her bathroom, to look at myself in the mirror. We had taken a lot longer than I had expected but it was mainly because we occasionally heard a song play on her phone that we were in love with and couldn't help dancing along to. I was reminded of when Alex and Jamie use to be here too but now they have other things that keep them occupied.
As I looked at myself in the mirror I was in awe; The black skater-dress accentuated my figure in all the right areas, although Em pushed me to wear a dress that was tightly fitted on the legs too because she didn't like that I always hide my beauties, whatever that means. She also paired the dress with gorgeous all black heels with gold accents and a gold layered necklace. My makeup was beyond perfect, accentuating my cheekbones and hazel brown eyes but not getting too dramatic with the eye-shadow and lipstick. I honestly think Emily could have a future in being a professional makeup artist. My hair was curled rather than being boringly straight, as usual. All of these different aspects made me look like a completely different person.
Emily also looked beautiful in her floral tight-fitted black dress and red heels to match the flowers on her dress. Her makeup consisted of the similar features as mine, but with more colorful lips and eye-shadow. Her blue-green hair was pulled into a messy bun, letting a few strands of hair cascade down the side of her face, framing it.
"Oh my god, we look amazing!" I yelp, as Em handed me a black and gold clutch. She smiled brightly in response, obviously proud of her work.
"Alright, it's 8:30 now, which mean we can grab something to eat from my kitchen and then head out and be there a little after 10:00, sound good?" I nodded as I followed closely behind her. When we entered her kitchen I sat down on the counter, swinging my feet like a child. She went to the cabinet and grabbed two bowls and frosted flakes. She showed me them to make sure I was OK and I nodded happily. She set them down and grabbed the milk from the fridge and two spoons. We ate in silence, making sure not to smudge our lipstick. Once we finished, Em ran upstairs to grab her purse and house keys as I placed our dishes in the sink. I looked at the clock on my phone, it's 9:00, an hour to get to a high school party?
"Where is this party going to be at anyway?" I asked as Em descended down the stairs and made her way over to the door.
"Its Anthony's friend Tim who's hosting the party, but it's at his summer home near China beach!" She said excitedly as we made our way back into my car. As we drove out of her driveway and Em directed me on which way to go, something dawned on me, if its Anthony's friend then I'm sure to see a familiar curly head of hair there as well, just wonderful.
