Chapter 1

“It’s gonna be okay.” Pamela said as she patted my back.

“I hope so.” I mumbled as I wiped my tears with the back of my hand. “I better go home.” I said and stood up.

“Are you sure you can handle yourself along the way?” She asked full of motherly concern.

“Of course, it’s not like it’s the end of the world for me.” I managed to crack a joke despite the pain shaking me.

“Okay.” She waved her hand.

I took one last look at eh couple in front of us, cuddling each other, particularly at the guy who was resting his head on the shoulder of the girl.

“Goodbye Ismael. I hope I’ll forget you immediately.” I muttered and removed my eyes away from them before my tears fall again.

I smelled and felt the crisp, cold wind of the night as I trudged towards the public park located near our house.

I slumped on the swing and looked up. I saw the vision of the ‘smiling Ismael’ and I felt tears flowing again.

I was in that state of self-pity when I heard sounds of a dribbled ball. When I tilted my head, I saw a guy my age playing his basketball.

I sighed, stood up from the swing and walked towards the discreet part of the park. I wanted to be alone.

I shook my head over my hands and was about to have another wave of tears when I heard the dribbling ball again.

I looked up. There’s the guy again.

I transferred to another place and a moment later, he was there again.

I’m getting annoyed.

I transferred back to the swing. I managed to cry but suddenly I felt an impact at my left foot and it damn hurts.

I looked at it and saw a basketball.

“I’m so sorry.” I heard somebody spoke. When I turned to find out who, I saw the guy running towards me.

My blood surged up.

I picked up the ball and by his look, he was anticipating that I’ll pass it to him.

But he’s wrong.

I’m angry.

I threw the ball away, to his shock, his mouth dropped but he recovered immediately and flashed a grin.

My blood boiled again.

Then I heard a glass breaking followed by the scary barks of dogs.

I looked at the source of the sound and was horrified to see Mr. Freeman’s house’s broken window.

“Look what have you done.” The guy muttered.

I looked back at him. “it’s your fault!” I snapped at him.

“My fault? You threw the ball, not me.” He said, obviously amused by the mischievous smile playing on his lops.

I was about to answer him when Mr. Freeman went out.

I hurriedly ran.

“Hey!” The guy shouted as he ran behind me. “Why are you running?” he asked when he managed to catch up.

“Of course, I don’t wanna get bitten by the dogs.”

He laughed.

“What’s funny?”

“You.”

I stopped that made him stopped running too.

“What?” He asked.

I took a deep breath and calmed myself. This guy is really annoying.

“Look! The dogs!” he shouted that made me jumped.

When I found that he’s laughing, I knew that he’s bluffing and was teasing me.

“AArrgh…”I shouted in frustration and walked straight towards our house. I dared not look back.

“Watch out, there’s a puddle.” He said.

I pretended that I didn’t hear him. I know he’s bluffing again.

But when I took another step, I slipped and was expecting to have my back against the dirt but the guy caught me.

It was very awkward with his arms around me while my arms, around his neck.

I stood up but my left foot slipped again and I eventually fell, including him. And to my surprise, his lips fell over mine!

I pushed him immediately and stood up. Damn my clumsiness! Without a word, I ran home.

It was the most humiliating moment of my life!
