Kenma X GN!reader

Kenma's POV

I walked into the arcade I used to frequent, before high school that is. After enrolling at Nekoma, joining volleyball, and having Kuroo hound my ass all the time, I no longer had time to go to this arcade. I looked around the place and noticed the state it was in. It wasn't totally trashed, but it looked like the owners were having trouble keeping the place up. I mean, that makes sense, arcades were becoming less popular now that you could buy every video game imaginable. I walked around looking at the games. There was one in the back that caught my eye, it was an old guitar hero game, I recognized it as one that Kuroo and I would play when we used to frequent this arcade.

I talked to the owners for a while, turns out things had been going fine for them, until the beginning of last year, when a young teenager had gone missing. They had been playing games when she apparently just up and vanished. No one could find them, and the case was labeled as cold.  After their disappearance, the arcade saw a bit of a decline in customers.

When the owners and I were done talking, I walked over to the Guitar Hero game. The owners had warned me that it hadn't been working properly since the teen disappeared, it could only he played on Expert, and only a few songs played at all. I shrugged and went to try my luck, seeing as this was lowkey my favorite game here. I flipped through the songs before saying screw it and just selecting the random song generator. The screen loaded quickly and the song turned out to be 'Through the Fire and Flames,' one of my favorite songs. And pretty much the most difficult song ever, though, I'd learned how to play it with very few mistakes. I noticed when it came to picking a character, that there was one I had never seen before. It was a teen about my age, dressed in all black, they looked very attractive, and very familiar too. I shook it off and selected the character, quickly loading into the actual song. On the loading screen something briefly popped up, a 'surprise challenge' it said, beat this song with 100% accuracy and get a special prize.  The song was long, almost 8 minutes long, but it felt shorter to me. After I had finished I looked at my score. Somehow I had finished with 100% accuracy. The game flashed to my character, and I thought the prize would just be an exclusive cut scene, but boy was I ever wrong.

There was a flash of light around me, and the lights of the arcade dimmed out, the game screen went staticky, and I thought the game finally just died. But suddenly, a hand came through the screen! It flailed around for a bit, before grabbing onto the edge of the machine. Soon, the head of the character I was using popped out of the screen, and that's when it hit me. This character, it was Y/n! They were crawling out of the machine like that girl in the Ring! I quickly grabbed their hands and helped pull them from the game completely. All the lights suddenly went out after the machine sparked. I pulled Y/n away from the machine and called for the owners, who, once seeing what was going on, called emergency services. 

Hours later and I was sitting next to the hospital bed Y/n was in. It was a long and tiring day after emergency services got to the arcade. Turns out Y/n's parents had passed away after their only child disappeared. I was quick to call my parents and ask if they could move in with me. My parents agreed and quickly signed all the necessary paperwork to take Y/n into their care until after high school.

After hours of police interviews, we were finally alone.

Y/n's POV

I sat in the hospital bed, exhausted beyond belief. The doctors poked and prodded me for over 2 hours before they left me alone to get some sleep. After they left I explained everything to Kenma, who was the person who saved me from having to spend eternity in that awful machine. "It was awful Kenma, I was so scared.  When no one was playing the game, it was like another world. I quickly fought my way to the top. But it was scary and tiring. It was like that movie....... Jumanji! The one with Robin Williams!! I hope no one else ever has to go through that." I ranted for hours, and Kenma just sat back and listened. The hospital allowed him to stay the night in the hospital, since I was too anxious to stay alone. After talking a bit more, I motioned for Kenma to lay next to me. He laid down carefully, making sure not to hurt me at all. Soon enough, we fell asleep in each other's arms.

TIME SKIP TO 2 MONTHS LATER

It's been 2 months since I got back to the real world and things are going great! I'm living with Kenma, and we've gotten super close. I even became the manager of the volleyball team. It took me a while to get used to being around people my age, but I was able to adjust quick enough. I was able to keep up with the school work, thanks to the team, I was placed in the second year of high school, in the same class as Kenma.

Kenma and I were walking home from school one evening, volleyball practice had run late, and it was now dark outside. We decided to stop for food before going home, since the house was empty and we wanted to stay out longer. Which surprised me, Kenma isn't normally the person to want to interact with anyone, or do anything, outside of the house. Heck, it used to be super hard to get him to go to school. I wasn't going to complain though, so we went and got ramen from our favorite place.

After we had eaten, he led me home the long way, which led through a park.  We looked up at the night sky and admired the stars together. "Hey Y/n, I have a question for you." He said suddenly. I nodded, indicating that he should continue.

"Look up at the sky, there are hundreds of stars shining bright up there.
There is one star that brightens up my life and my very existence .
With light that spreads infinitely into every nook and corner of my soul. You are that shining star of my life.
Y/n, I love you, be the brightest star in my life?" He asked, blushing madly. I felt my face grow red as well, and I quickly hid it out of shyness. I nodded quickly, "yes Kenma, I'll be that star."

He quickly pulled me into a tight hug, then kissed me on the lips. Thus beginning a new chapter of our lives. One we would share together, as lovers.

Hey lovelies.  I know I've been gone for a while, and this oneshot is a month overdue!!! I'M SO SORRY!!!! But now that the negative messages have pretty much stopped I'll be more active. I have a 10k special already written, and I have a request, and since I couldnt decide between the 2 characters, I decided I'll do one of each! Updates will still be slow, but I'm back for now.
