Chapter 33: Certificate

"Mija, oh my! You're much beautiful in person!" my distant cousin shrieked.

Ngumiti ako at tumugon sa kaniyang beso. "Salamat po,"

"Earth, I saw your newest magazine, mija. My daughter is your biggest fan. She bought all your magazines and she even cried during your fashion week."

"Oh, hi, Auntie Delhia. I'm sure Dalia's going to have a career in entertainment industry, huh. " nakangiti kong sinabi.

She grinned. "She's over there. Until now, nahihiya pa siyang lumapit sa'yo baka raw magalit ka."

Napatingin ako sa direksyon na tinuro niya. Her high school daughter, Dalia, is hiding on the pillar. We are on the outside of the hotel. The shore of the beach has pillars like we're in Greece. It has thin pillars with white sheets designed as curtains are dancing upon the ocean's breeze.

I smiled at Dalia and wave my hand at her. Mabilis siyang nagtago sa pillar kaya natawa kami.

"Hola. Soy tu fan..." (Hello. I'm a fan.)

"Me siento honrado, Dalia. ¿Quieres nadar juntos más tarde?" (I'm honored, Dalia. Do you want to swim together later?"

(Yes.)

Ngumiti ako. "Okay,"

"Wow. You can boast at your friends now, dear. The infamous model is your third degree cousin and she's your friend now,"

"Let's take lots of picture later, Dalia. You can post it too if you want."

"Really? I can?"

I chuckled.

"Oops. Nanakawin ko muna si Heart ngayon," singgit ni Tita Fel.

Dumaragsa ang iba pa naming ka-pamilya ngayon. I smiled at Dalia and excused myself to my cousin and Auntie.

Distant families are here now. Three generations are gathered here in the San Benito House that Tita Mercy owned. Last night, Mommy called me for this matter. They wanted to bring Leese with me. They think I am in good terms with Leese and probably okay to resume our lost engagement, or at least that's why they think. Hindi ko rin alam kung kailangan ko pa bang sabihin sa kanila na boyfriend ko si Leese and we are setting things straight. I don't think they will care for that matter.

I told him about this family gathering which I usually ditch the last years. He had work to do so I pushed him to do it instead of coming here. My family is already disappointed with my decision and I have no plan on changing that. It is what they perceive about my nature so better to let it be.

"Anong agenda ngayon, Tita?"

Natawa si Tita Fel. "Sounded like everything in our family is business."

"Is it not?"

The place is scenic and nature inclined vibe. It is fit for big families because the whole place can be booked for privacy.

(I heard you're married, mija. Where's your husband?"

"Perdón, Abuela Elena. I'm not married." (Pardon, Abuela Elena.)

"Escuché a tu abuelo decir que lo eres cuando hablamos del matrimonio de Rhea." (I just heard your grandfather saying you are when we're talking about Rhea's marriage.)
