Insurgent Base, Edonia"Jake?" A young girl with waist-length, sandy blonde hair walked down the old-looking halls, searching for someone. Her eyes darted back and forth as she passed several rooms, none containing the man she was looking for.
"Stupid fucking laces."
Her pace quickened when she heard the familliar voice, and she hurried down the hall, stopping at the last room. Peeking in, she noticed a male sitting upon a worn out table. He had his left knee drawn towards his chest and was leaning forwards a little; his hands were fiddling with the laces on his boot.
"Jake!" The girl's eyes brightened with happiness as she entered the room.
He looked up from his preoccupation with narrowed eyes, but his expression softened just the lightest bit when he recognised the girl.
"Cassie, what the hell are you doing here?" His words werent meant to be rude, it was just his natural way of speaking. He watched her closely as she approached him, noticing her happy demeanor. But suddenly she changed; the happiness that was once evident in her forrest green eyes was no more, leaving only sadness. "What happened?" His voice was close to a growl this time; he was ready to end someone's life if any harm had come to her.
"I'm okay, it's just…" Her gaze drifted to the cement floor as she chose her words, carefully. "I'm moving to North America."
"What the hell are you talkin' about?" This time he did growl, which earned a grimace from the confessing girl.
"My fath- My guardian is moving to the United States, and…"
"That bastard's taking you with him!" He scooted off of the table and stood in front of the girl; he was a good five or six inches taller than her, so she had to look up to meet his gaze.
It was silent for a few minutes while the two stared at eachother, but Jake suddenly slammed his fist down on the table.
"Fucking hell!"
Cassie watched quietly as her closest friend took his frustration out on the table, while she could do nothing about it. She was only thirteen, too young to live on her own. She had considered running away, but realised that it was too dangerous. Her town was filled with gangs, violence, drugs… She knew she wouldnt be able to survive on the streets for long, even with Jake's help.
"Jake… I'll come back. I'll find a way back so we can see eachother again!" She grabbed one of his hands, which gained his attention; he noticed the sudden determination in her eyes and sighed.
"You gotta promise that you wont die before I come back!" He eyed her skeptically; Hell, he was a Mercenary! His life was at stake everyday!
"Promise, Jake!"
Despite knowing that he might be lying, he muttered,
"Yeah yeah, I promise."
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed it! Just as a side note for you viewers, the way this is gonna work is: Chapter, Flashback, Chapter, Flashback, and so on. I feel like having Flashback chapters is the best way to write what had happened in the past.
