EdoniaAnother hour had passed.
Jake sighed as he glanced at the clocktower a few streets away; the tall building was made of light grey stone, and the clock upon it was colored black. The time read Eleven-Thirty.
"Where the hell are you?" He shook his head in annoyance. If she wasnt going to meet with him as they had planned, then he would go to her. Of course, he would make sure that she made up for it later on.
"Cant rely on anyone, can I?" The young male was talking to himself once again, something he found himself doing every now and then. He shoved his hands in his pockets as he walked down the street, and started whistling to pass the time. A few people gave him strange looks as he passed them; it was nearly noon time, which meant the town was at its busiest for the day. The towns market was open, some people were out buying food while others lingered in alleyways and waited for an opening to steal their needed supplies.
Jake glanced up just in time to watch a familliar girl walk by him; he was well-aware of who she was but he paid no mind to her and kept walking. He didnt feel like conversing with others at the moment, he only wanted to talk with a certain blonde-haired, green-eyed girl.
When he arrived at her home, he allowed his knuckles to collide loudly against the wooden door once, twice, three times. The door appeared so old and worn-out, so it was surprising to see it still intact after all of his rough knocks over the years.
He became impatient as time went by and no one answered the door, so he reached up to knock again -- but was stopped when the door opened, revealing a mid-aged man.
"Good Afternoon, Jake." The older male greeted with a slight smile, a little annoyed that he had been inturrupted. "Why are you here? Shouldnt you be meeting up with my daughter in town?"
Jake balled his fist in his pocket to distract himself from saying something rather rude, no matter how much he wanted to.
"Cant exactly meet with someone who doesnt show up." He muttered, his natural wiseass kicking in.
"Cassie didnt arrive? Now that's not good." He reached up to rub his chin in thought. "She left several hours ago. Son, why didnt-"
"Dont call me that, Daniel." Jake snapped, sending the older male a glare. The man now known as Daniel was a little taken back, but smiled nonetheless.
"My apologies. Now, why dont you just go run along and search the town again? Im sure she just got lost; you know her pretty well, so you know how she is." Daniel chuckled a little to himself before glancing behind him. "Now, I must get back to work. I have a deadline to meet." He flashed Jake a smile before shutting the door.
Jake sighed in frustration as he allowed himself to imagine the many possible ways that Daniel could die. He hated him; Every time he came over, Daniel always said something that pissed him off, and today was exactly the same.
"How the hell am I supposed to find her? Its not like she fucking stands out." growled to himself, "The bastard didnt even seem concerned. Fucking asshole."
It was a few days after Cassie's dissappearance, and Jake was still as pissy as ever, but behind his foul mood was genuine concern for his friend. Inbetween his Mercenary assignments, he took time to search the town for the girl. Even after hours of searching, he never found her. He had gone back to her house a few times, but no one ever answered the door. Jake was starting to consider the possibility of Cassie being kidnapped, or even killed… and it only angered him further.
Of course, he wasnt one to do things for free. So whether finding her was for his own sastifaction, or just for Cassie's sake, he would still force some type of payment out of Daniel once it was all over.
"J-Jake?"
That voice.
Jake stopped dead in his tracks at the sound of the soft voice, debating whether or not his mind was playing tricks on him.
"Jake!"
The voice was followed by quick footsteps, then he felt arms wrap around his waist from behind. The embrace felt warm, comforting… yet fake.
"Jake, oh, Jake…"
He felt the girl burry her face into his back, making him tense up. She felt so real, but his mind was still convinced that she was fake.
"I was so scared… I thought they were going to kill me!"
Her arms unwrapped from around him, and a moment later she was standing in front of him. Her blonde hair, her green eyes, the scar across her eyebrow… Everything proved that she was real.
"Jake… I thought I would never see you again." Her voice quivered with fear as she locked her gaze with his own.
He had spent a week searching for her, finding nothing, and now she had suddenly found him.
