Chapter 1

The hospital has just been flooded with patience from the cafe fire ranging from first degree burns to severe smoke inhalation. "All right people listen up we are about to be flooded with people from the cafe fire not far from here." Dr. Richard Webber chief of chiefs said as he addressed the team getting them prepared for what was about to come. Meredith was pulled into a surgery by Mark to help with a burn victim so Derek was on his way to intake. "What do we got?" He asked one of the nurses. He was going over everything from the intake desk when he spotted a familiar name Evan Buckley was brought in by Travis Montgomery and Victoria Hughes. Derek immediately went to check on him. It didn't take long to find Buck because even though he was clearly in no shape to be moving around at all he was still arguing with the nurses that he was fine and could leave. "Don't listen to him, he is going for a full exam and blood work." Derek said. "Got it doctor." The nurse said as she left the room to get everything ready. "Before you say anything" Buck started to say. "Don't, first off what the heck are you doing here?" Derek asked. "After the accident I found out that I would never be a firefighter again so I decided to come out to Seattle and see you and Meredith." Buck said. "So she knows you're here?" Derek asked. "No it was kind of a spare of the moment thing." Buck said a little sheepishly. "Well some things never change." Derek said a little annoyed. "Hey." Buck said a little offended. "Ok so how did you wind up here?" Derek asked. "I drove for 17 hours so I decided to stop and get something to eat and drink, I stopped at this little cafe and after I finished the coffee and sandwich my stomach started to feel funny and I noticed smoke coming from the kitchen." Buck said. "Same old Evan." Derek said. "How many times do I have to tell you and Meredith I prefer to go buy Buck." Buck said. "Tell that to her when she sees you here." Derek said. "Please don't tell her or else I probably will need you as a doctor." Buck said as a joke but scared. "Hey if I don't tell her she'll find out herself and then we will both need a doctor." Derek said. "Fine, but I tell her why I'm in Seattle." Buck said.
*Time skip*
It wasn't too long after Derek spoke with Buck that Meredith walked into his room full of steam and concern. "Before you say anything this is not how I wanted you to find out that I was in town." Buck said. "You always were one for drama, So how have you been Evan?" Meredith said. He knew that he was in trouble she only called him Evan when she was mad. "Uh I've been good, I'm sure you heard about the accident and me quitting the fire department." He said. "Ya I did, I'm so sorry to hear about that I know how much you loved being a firefighter." She said. "Yes I did but I also love work with kids so I was hoping that you might know of a opening in something to do with pediatrics somewhere around here." He asked. "I might know of a place on two condition." She said. "What is it?" He asked. "That you follow my rules and listen to everything I say and you stay with me, Derek and the kids until you get settled." She said. Buck had a look on his face that says he was in trouble.
