Emma asked the question, her voice stripped of its usual cheerfulness.

"—I thought it didn't.. work? that doesn't make sense..?" Norton added quietly as Fiona stepped forward toward the boy who stood behind me.

She stood idle as she just stared towards Aesop before finally speaking up, "I believe it."

"Good." The demon gave a nod, shifting his weight to his other leg, standing to the side of me.

"..I guess it's somewhat logical. We've never seen you before, and you popped up after we performed that ritual.. and you're with Eli, the one who said the.. thing." Norton shrugged, crossing his arms as he spoke.

"...U-Um, yeah — makes sense.. sorta." Emma sighed shakily, picking at the pigment covering her nails. "This is a lot, ehe.. but.. how do we tell Mary and Michiko? They deserve to know as well.. and we don't see them for a while."

"..Text them through the group chat, maybe?" I pulled out my phone, disconnecting the headphone cords as I unlocked it, gaze averting back up to those in front of me.

"..Sure, go for it. Mary probably won't react well.. but, I can help." The redhead gave a short nod, swaying her and Emma's interlocked hands, I'm assuming to calm her down slightly.

"..Kay." I nodded, shaky hands typing out the message.

Mary 💖, Fio, Emma, Norton, Michiko.

Eli - Mary, Michiko, we've got a small problem.

Fio - Yeah, Eli found a demon and now we don't know what to do .. tiny tiny problem

Michiko: Oh, Dear. That Is A Problem; Surely It Will Be Fine.

Mary💖: démon?! que veux-tu dire démon?! ce n'est pas un petit problème?!

I closed my phone as soon as Mary responded,
shoving it back into my pocket.

"..This.. Mary does not seem pleased." Aesop peered down toward me, tilting his head slightly. "Do you think Mary will be unhappy when meeting me? I trust you will inform them..?"

"Mhm, we'll tell her and Michiko about the ritual, we didn't get around to tell them." I gave a nod, sitting down into the wood chips resting on the playground floor, to which Aesop quickly followed.

"—So, what now? We know Aesop's a demon.. we all do now, but.. what else from here?" Emma swung her and Fiona's still interlocked hands as she spoke, the cheerfulness in her voice slowly returning.

"..I don't know..? Make sure no one else finds out, obviously — maybe make Aesop blend in more?" I rested my head into my hand, thinking.

"..Maybe get him a mask, too?" Norton added.

"—Cover his fangs and stuff.. they're kinda obvious.. they're larger than normal canine teeth, a lot sharper.. and they're the only teeth in his mouth that stick out somewhat."

"People could think you're cosplaying all the time with how you look now~" Fiona added with a chuckle.

I nodded, "I'm planning on giving him an old phone of mine, so he can contact us.. and so he doesn't have to come to school all the time."

"..Why do you talk as if I'm not present? You can simply use 'you', and direct your speech toward me." Aesop sighed, mumbling, "..Stupid boy."

I grumbled at the other's speech, grabbing a handful of wood chips, quickly tossing them at him. "..I find you very, very annoying." I couldn't help but chuckle as I spoke, quickly standing.

Aesop, clearly surprised, simply stared at me, "Eli Clark." He paused, gloved hand digging into the wood chips, "I reciprocate your feelings." And with that, he threw the small chunks of wood toward me.

The others simply laughed, and eventually, we all started throwing wood chips at each other.

A wood chip fight.. fun.
