I decided to walk to the park and people watch. The park is about a ten minute walk from the apartment. It's still early so the sun was still out and the streets are a little busy with school just letting out and people beginning to get off work. Looking at my surroundings I could tell that the cold was right around the corner. The trees were becoming bare as the leaves piled on the ground and more people where beginning to wear jackets. While walking down the street I see my little homie I like to fuck with. He got a smart ass mouth and he think he tough, but he funny and got good street smarts for being only thirteen.
"Darkness!" I yelled out in my Dave Chappelle voice as I approached him and his friends. I could see the scowl on his face as his friends busted up laughing.
"Hey turn that frown upside down Ken. It's not my fault can't nobody see you after the street lights go off. Blame ya mama for you being Wesley Snipes black. You better learn to smile since that's the only way people can see you at night." I told him. His friends had tears in their eyes at this point.
"Your hos don't be complaining when I fuck'em. By the way please find a ho that has some walls. I'm tired of feeling like I'm throwing a hot dog through a hallway."
This is the regular for me and Ken. I talk about how black he is and he talk about the females I mess with. I gotta admit the hot dog through a hallway joke was funny.
"That's what I got your mom for. By the way is she still walking with a limp?" I asked him with an amused smile. Everbody knows Ken's mom is celibate and has been since she had him at the age of sixteen. His father left when he found out she was pregnant and no one has heard from him since. She declared men ain't shit after that and decided no sex before marriage. That hurt my heart cause she's fine as hell. She looks like Aliyah and got ass like Amber Rose.
"No. But has your mom found her way to the land of soap and water yet? I walked pass your mom the other day and it smelled like I was walking through a fish market that has been abandoned for fifty years." His friends where rolling over laughing now. That was a good comeback. Truth be told I haven't seen my mom for almost ten years. Don't plan on seeing her anytime soon either. She's probably laying on her back somewhere for a rock or something.
"Ha ha lil nigga. That was a good one. But what's good with you?"
"Shit trying to get into something. It's Friday, I ain't got no job, and I ain't got shit to do."
"I'm on my way to the park to just chill. You trying to kick it with me for a lil bit."
"That sounds like a plan. Y'all down?" He asked his friends. They all nodded their heads in approval.
We started walking towards the park while cracking jokes on one another. I know what your thinking. Why is this grown ass man hanging out with a bunch of kids. Well the answer is simple, because I can. Plus I like to think I'm somewhat of a role model to these kids. I know I'm a stripper and all but I don't sell drugs and I don't have five kids by five different women. I like to think they look up to me. There's Not many positive role models around here. Drug dealers are always recruiting and they like to go for the naive teenager that's looking for a father figure. Ken and his friends have a huge target on their back to become a statistic and I want to try and help prevent that. I make myself available to them and try to be there for them which can range from giving them a few dollars to put in their pocket to helping with homework.
"Ay Mercy you gotta work tonight?" Ken's friend Sam asked. I don't hide what I do for a living. They know I strip and they even know the name of the club. They always trying to get me to let them in on the girls' side so they can see some ass. Me being the responsible adult I am always answer with 'I'll see what I can do'.
"Yea why?" I asked.
"You know why." He replied
"I'll see what I can do." I told him.
"Which means no." Ken interrupted. He knows me so well I thought to myself. Sam didn't seem to catch the sarcasm. I always thought the boy was slow.
"Nobody was talking to you Ken". Sam snapped. "Mercy said he'll see what he can do."
"He always says that Sam. Think about it. He says this every single time, but we've yet to get close to that club." Ken countered. Sam got quiet after that. I guess he was really thinking about if they've ever been to the club. I wonder if he was dropped on the head as a baby.
We made it to the park and began walking towards the benches near the swings. There were a few kids in the park playing either on the swings or the jungle gym. Some of the older kids were playing a full court pickup game on the basketball court across from the baseball field. We were just about to sit down when I heard footsteps behind us.
"Wassup nephews." I turn around to be greeted by none other then the neighborhood crackhead Will. Will isn't your typical crackhead. Yeah he smoked crack and I wouldn't put it pass him to suck a dick to get some, but there is something different about him. Rumor has it he used to be a big time drug dealer who got caught slipping getting high on his own supply. Now he is simply known as Will the crackhead.
"Will the crackhead. What's going on unc?" I greeted him. I've known Will since I was teenager and have been calling him Will the crackhead since I met him so he's gotten used to it and doesn't seem bothered by it.
"Nothing much nephew. I know you have to work tonight and I was wondering if you could get me in so I can see some ass clap?"
I looked at Will like he was crazy. How the hell does he know I work tonight. He always seems to know stuff he shouldn't.
"How do you know I work tonight?" I asked him.
"I've always got my ears to the streets nephew." He replied.
"We about to head out." I heard Ken say from beside me while looking across the street from the park. I looked in the direction he was staring and saw a few girls around his age walking Down the street.
"Aight I'll holler at you later." I told him. As he started walking across the street I noticed This girl I've never seen before walking towards the corner store. I couldn't help myself. This girl was beautiful and I just had to talk to her.
"Where you going?" Will asked as I began walking towards the corner store.
"I got some business to take care of." I answered back.
"You never answered my question." Will yelled as I began walking across the street.
"I'll see what I can do." I yelled back.
