Chapter 3

Toni Pov

She can't be serious right now. We have gone to the same school since we were in the 3rd grade. Yes we haven't really talked before, but our school isn't that big. Shelby and I are polar opposites. She is the popular Christian girl who is drop dead gorgeous. Every guy wants to be with her, and every girl wants to be her. All I see is this try hard girl hidden behind a hot body. What can I say, I have eyes and she's hot. Doesn't mean I'd ever hookup with her and vice versa. She is as straight as it gets and has said some homophobic things in the past. So yeah, I'll have to pass. 

"Shelby I know who you are. We have been at the same school since we were young." I said frustrated.

"Oh my apologies, I must've forgotten. I guess we have never crossed paths. I'm sorry but would you mind telling me your name again?"

"It's Toni." 

We got interrupted by the teacher saying everyone get in their assigned seats, class is starting. I already can't wait for this day to be over.

"Okay, hi class my name is Ms. Sesame, and I will be your teacher for this year. I would like everyone to go around the room and introduce themselves to the class." Ms. Sesame looks around the classroom and then makes eye contact with me. Shit.

"Why don't you go first, please stand up miss." She points at me like she doesn't know who I am, even though I know she has talked to the other teachers about me. 

I stand up and say "alright, um hi I'm Toni." I go to sit back down but Ms. Sesame says tell me something about you. Can't she just leave me alone, gosh. I heard a snicker from Fatin in the back. 

"I'm the captain of the girls basketball team." Then I sit down. 

"Thank you, lets just go in a line. Your next sweetie." She tells Shelby. 

"Hi y'all! I'm Shelby, and I do real, I do family, I do jesus, and I do pageants."

I rolled my eyes. The teacher said tell me something about you, not a whole fucking list. Like nobody fucking asked. 

"Oh wow Shelby that is wonderful" Ms. Sesame said with excitement in her voice. 

Fatin was the last one to introduce herself. "Hi i'm Fatin and I love to have fun" she said while winking to the guy next to her. 

"Um okay well nice to meet you all. I am very excited for this year. Now that you all have introduced yourselves, I think it is a perfect time to learn about the project that you and the person next to you will be working on" Ms. Sesame said. 

Shelby and I made eye contact. Her green eyes lit up hearing that we will be working together. However my eyes didn't match her excitement. This isn't going to be fun. 

"For this project you and your partner will be making a 5-10 minute video coming up with different endings for the plot Romeo and Juliet. I can't wait to see what y'all are going to come up with." 

This project would actually sound really cool if I was working with someone different. Sadly, I can't change that.

Shelby looks at me "This is going to be so much fun! What days work for you to start working on the project outside of school?"

"I have basketball practice: Monday, Wednesday, Friday. So either Tuesday's or Thursday's."

"Okay well I have pagent practice on Tuesday's so lets meet up on Thurday's."

"Okay that's fine. Where do you want to meet up?"

"Let's do your house. There is always a lot going on at my house so it would be hard to concentrate." When Shelby said that I could tell that she wasn't telling the whole truth, but I'm not going to ask. 

"Okay that's fine." 

The bell then rings and we are able to leave class. 

I had a few more classes and then it was time for lunch. When I got to the cafeteria I noticed Martha and Nora sitting together at our usual table, so i went and sat next to them. 

"Hey Marty and Nora." I said putting my lunch box on the table. Marty and I have the same lunch because her mom is so nice and makes us lunch everyday.

"Hey Toni" They both say in unison. 

"How have your first few classes gone?" Nora asked.

"Ehh they've been alright. I have to work on this stupid project with Shelby Goodkind."

"Oh Shelby is so sweet. I have math with her and she is at the same table with me." Marty said excitedly. 

"Sweet isn't the word I would use for her."

"Toni lighten up, she is a very kind person. I'm glad you have someone like her to work on your project with."

"Yeah I'm hoping she will do most of the work" I said with a smirk on my face.

Martha gave me a nudge and a stern look.

Just as this was happening, Rachel, Fatin, Dot, and Leah all came to the table. 

"Hey y'all what's going on?" Dot said as she came over to the table. 

"We were just talking about how Shelby Goodkind and Toni are working on a project together for English."

"Oh right" Fatin said. "I'm working with this hot guy and my goal is to fuck him by the time the project is done." 

"Of course it is" Leah said as she looked away from Fatin. 

"I'm glad that you are excited for your partner. I can't stand Shelby. She acts so innocent and nice, it's annoying as hell."

"Sucks to be you" Fatin said as she stuck her tongue out at me. 

Lunch was soon enough over and we finished our day. Since today is Monday I have basketball practice after school. 

After my last class I packed up my stuff and headed to the girls locker room. I met up with a few of my basketball friends when I got in there. Once we were all done getting ready, we went out to the court to start warming up. 

"Alright ladies everyone get on the line and stretch. This year I have high hopes for you. I am going to push y'all very hard, and if it's too much for you then you can leave" Coach Williams said. 

She went over a few things that we have going on in the next few weeks. She got interrupted with a bunch of girls in their cheerleading outfits on followed by what seems to be their coach. 

"Oh right ladies. The school thought that it would be a good idea for y'all to have cheerleaders who come cheer at your game." 

Of course I look at them to see if I knew any of them. I see Amy from Art, Emma from Science... oh no. Why does she have to be here. 

"Y'all lets go to the other half of the gym, so they can play." Fucking Shelby Goodkind. 

Great literally great. I can't catch a fucking break. Now I will be seeing her not only every day during class, but also everyday but Tuesday after school. This is going to be a long year.
