The Weirdo on Maple Street

You had no other choice but to get her to the Wheeler's house. The girl was sitting on the couch in Mike's basement, where the boys play D&D.

She looked so scared and cold. You had given her your jacket in hopes of getting her warmed up a little, but it looked like it really didn't do much.

"Is there a number we can call for your parents?" Mike asked first.

"Where's your hair? Do you have cancer?" Dustin asked, curious. You nudged the back of his head.

"Shut up" you silenced your brother's questions.

"Did you run away?" Lucas asked.

"Are you in some kind of trouble?" Mike continued.

"Is that blood?" Lucas pointed at a red spot on the girl's shirt.

The kids where just bombing her with questions, she looked so confused.

"Stop, you guys! You're freaking her out!" you exclaimed at them.

"She's freaking me out!" Lucas exclaimed back.

"I bet she's deaf" Dustin added, he clapped his hands on front of the girl, she jumped, startled. "... not deaf".

You shook your head at your brother's actions. "Enough, okay? Mike, do you have any dry clothes she could borrow?" you asked him.

He nodded with a quiet 'yeah' and went to the washing machine, where on top there were some dry clothes.

You looked back at her, seeing how the thunder sounds scared her so much, you decided to sit next to her, trying to give her comfort. She got away from you, just a little. "Hey, it's ok. We're not gonna hurt you. We're just trying to help" You tried to reassure her with a smile. She seemed to relax a little bit.

"Here, these are clean, ok?" Mike said, handing over the clothes.

The girl gently grabbed them and stood up. Then she took her hands to the bottom of the shirt, about to strip, when everyone stopped her.

"No, no, no!" Lucas and Dustin turned around.

"Oh my God, Oh my god" Dustin said in shock.

"Alright" you said, pulling down her shirt. "We don't do that" you looked at her, trying to teach her.

"See over there? That's the bathroom" Mike stammered while signaling to the door at the back of the room. "Privacy, get it?"

She nodded and went inside, before Mike could close the door, the girl stopped him abruptly.

"You don't want it closed?" you asked.

"No" she looked back at you and Mike.

"So you do speak" you half-joked.

"How about we just keep the door..." Mike closed the door but leaving a little crack so it wasn't fully closed "like this?"

The girl looked at him, not so sure.

"How about I go in with you? Would you feel comfortable with that?" She looked back at you, nodding. You gave Mike a nod and went inside, now fully closing the door.

"Right, so, I'll look this way and you can change. Just like Mike said: privacy. If you do need help, just let me know" you said, turning the other way. A few seconds had passed when you felt a hand softly pulling from your shirt. You turned around to see the girl having difficulties with the shirt, her head stuck, not fully coming out of the neck of the shirt.
