a/n: When I first starting writing this book.. I was in seventh grade trying to face the harsh and difficult terrain of middle school life all while being obsessed with musicals such as this one. Be More Chill saved my freaking life and made me feel less alone. As I come up to graduating high school myself, I wanna thank you for all the reads and constant support. I hope this book continues to help people feel less alone. This is where I say goodbye to my childhood and move onto a new chapter. Thank you.

Michael slipped his camo pack's strap over his shoulder, taking one final look in the mirror. Did he really want to leave? He had to do it, for him, for his family, for Jeremy. He listened to Jeremy's strained happy voice speaking to their two sweet children. Michael took a deep breath and finally stepped out of their shared room.

"DAD!! You look so handsome!!" Their little daughter, Christine, exclaimed. Her cute pink dress bouncing with her excitement.

"Thank you sweetheart. Hey," Michael crouched down and got close to her ear, "You think daddy will think the same?" She giggled, nodding excitedly. Jeremy walked around the corner with their son, Rich on his hip. His eyes began to water watching his family all come together.

"Jer," Michael's heart began to pound and Jeremy gently set their son down who ran to Michael and hugged his legs.

"DAD!!! YOU LOOK LIKE A SOLDIER!" The little boy smiled widely. Michael's felt his eyes weaken with tears and looked up at Jeremy.

"Thank you kiddo. And I will be buddy." Michael spoke trying to keep his voice steady. Jeremy grabbed Michael's hand sweetly.

"You don't have to go. I could work double shifts and we could get you a job with my dad and his company." Jeremy ran his hands up and down Michael's arms. Michael smiled letting a single tear slip shaking his head.

"I have to do this so that you and the kiddos will be secure. I'll only be gone for a little while and I'll be home before you know it." Michael spoke, cupping Jeremy's freckled cheek in his hand. Jeremy leaned into the soft touch letting his hidden tears fall.

"We're gonna be okay. You can write me as many letters as you want and send me pictures of you and the kids." Michael softly stroked Jeremy's face with his thumb.

"Are you gonna shoot guns and kill people!?" Rich asked excitedly mocking shooting his sister with his little fingers. Christine rolled her eyes crossing her arms. Michael kissed Jeremy on the forehead and turned to his little boy.

"Well buddy boy, I'm gonna definitely help out around the camp and out in the field. Your dad's gonna go protect us all." Michael managed a simple smile and Christine suddenly realized what was happening.

"Are.. you.. leaving?" Christine began to tear up. "YOU CAN'T LEAVE! I NEED YOU! DADDY NEEDS YOU!" Christine's sweet little face turned a bright pink and Michael crouched down, wrapping her up in a big bear hug.

"Christy baby. There's no need to cry. Dad will be back as soon as you know it. He's gonna be saving people. Being a a superhero." Michael explained and she moved away from him to wipe her small eyes.

"A superhero?" She asked through gently gasps and hiccups.

"Yes! Just like Superman. But can I ask you to do me a very serious question?" Michael straightened out his features and stared into her green eyes.

"Mhm." She nodded her light brown haired head.

"I need you to take care of Daddy and brother. You're the little woman of the house, so I need you to take care of them. Can you do that for me?" Michael cupped her pink cheeks, stained by tears. She nodded simply and hugged him tightly. Jeremy's sniffles were heard behind him as he stood back up.

"I love you all so much. I'll see you all soon." Michael let himself take a big deep breath. Jeremy rushed forward and kissed him deeply and gently. Michael let his hands snake down to Jeremy's waist and pull him in tighter.

"I love you Micha. Please be safe." Jeremy spoke softly pressing his forehead into Michael's.

"I promise."

The camo van pulled with a harsh stop in front of the house of the Mell's. Michael tightened his straps and began to step in before Jeremy pulled him into one last kiss. The feeling of Jeremy's warm lips almost made it all worth it. He turned after their sweet kiss and got into the truck. Rich and Christine ran beside it waving and screaming,

"BYE DAD I LOVE YOU!!"
"BRING ME BACK A GUN!!"
"COME BACK SOON!!"
"BYE!!"

Michael felt his heart wrench with love and fear and longing.

"Goodbye."
