My name is Mia. I'm 17 and I go to a high school full of pricks and assholes. My best friend is named Michael and he's really cool. Here's where it gets awkward, I've figured out that I'm a boy and I want be comfortable with me. Michael said it'd be cool and he'd totally be gay for me. He always makes me giggle and super happy. The problem is, is that my dad is homophobic and doesn't understand the logic of transgender people. Michael said I could live with him if he doesn't accept me, but I'm so afraid to come out to him. Today is the day I'm gonna come out to him. Michael said it'd be okay, and he'd come with me. I told him to just wait outside just in case. I walked into my house and found my dad sitting on the couch with a beer.

"Hey kid. What's up?" I took a deep breath and sat on the rocking chair my mom owned.

"Dad I'm going to tell you something important to me. You just need to understand. I'm transgender, I want to be a boy." His eyes turned from calm to angry.

"Excuse me?" I stood up.

"I'm a boy." He shook his head. "No no no. No daughter of mine is a boy." I sighed.

"I am. Don't listen, kick me out. I want to be other than I am. I hate being in this body." My dad grabbed my arm gruffly and shoved me into the wall. I hit my head hard.

"You aren't. You're a girl and that's how you were born. Now go upstairs and take a shower and get ready for bed. No dinner." I rubbed my head.

"No." He turned around.

"What?" I stepped forward.

"I said no." My dad walked back up to me. He got close to my face. His breath stinking of beer.

"Listen to me. Or you will get kicked out." I got closer to his face.

"I dare you." He stepped back shocked.

"Fine! GET OUT! YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO ME AND YOUR MOTHER! SHE WOULD NEVER WANT YOU TO BE THIS WAY! GET OUT YOU FUCK UP!" I stomped out the door.

"MOM WOULD'VE LOVED ME! YOU'RE THE FUCK UP! ALCOHOLIC BITCH!" I slammed the door and started sobbing. Michael was out of the car in an instant.

"Mi- Jeremy, what's wrong? Did he..." I nodded. He sighed.

"I'm sorry Jer." I hugged him tightly, which caught him off guard.

"It'll be okay Jeremy." I got into his PT Cruiser and curled up in the front seat.

"I hate myself." I mumbled.

"What?" Michael asked.

"I hate myself." I said a little louder.

"You shouldn't, and if you still do after then I'll love you." My cheeks turned bright red.

"Hey, hows about we go get your hair cut? I'll treat you to the first steps of your transition. You know since I love you and all." He giggled which made me smile.

"Thanks Micha."  We pulled up to the hair cut place. It was dark and kinda scary. A guy with bright green hair and tattoos and spikes walked up to us.

"Hey Ace." Michael said to the guy. I noticed a small pin on his vest. It had a rainbow on it with an equal sign and I calmed.

"This is Jeremy. Jeremy this is Ace." He looked at me. His eyes looked softer than his appearance.

"Hey Jeremy. Trans?" I nodded. He smiled and it revealed a few silver teeth.

"Cool! I'm gay. My boyfriend is so sweet." I smiled and Michael nudged me.

"Oh... I'm bisexual." He nodded.

"OI! MICHAEL! He's a catch." He winked and Michael pushed him.

"Whatever Ace." Ace escorted me to a chair and I told him how I wanted my hair. He nodded and got straight to work. Snip by snip, the pieces fell and when Ace was done, tears were in my eyes. I finally looked how I've wanted to for all these years. A boy.

"Ace! I love it!" He laughed at me.

"I get that all the time sweetie." Michael looked at me in the mirror and his cheeks turned from his normal dark complexion, to a more red flush.

"Y-you look great Jeremy." He sputtered.

"Thanks Micha. And thank you Ace. How much do I owe you?" He shook his head.

"On me." I gasped.

"Really?" Ace nodded.

"Anything for a fellow LGBTQ+ member." He winked. Michael and I waved by to Ace and got back in the car.

"Michael, thank you." Michael giggled.

"Don't thank me silly. Thank yourself. Be proud of yourself too." We got to his house and I fell out of his car and rushed to the front door.

"Geez calm." Michael chuckled and opened the door.

"Michael! Mia!" Mrs. Mell said happily.

"No mom. Not Mia, Jeremy." Michael corrected and Mrs. Mell gasped.

"Jeremy?! I'm so happy for you!" She hugged me tightly and giggled.

"How'd your dad react? Oh sweetie I already know. You can stay here for however long you want. Sweet thing. Aww! Lemme fix you up something. You like sandwiches? I can make you some."

"Mom!" Michael said suddenly. Mrs. Mell stopped.

"He needs to rest." I looked at Michael.

"Oh. Of course. Maybe later then dear. I'm just so excited for you. Get some sleep love." Michael crept up the stairs with me and I fell onto his bed.

"I'm so tired." I said muffled.

"You're telling me. Imagine dealing with my mom 24/7. Well I mean I guess you are going to." Tears fills my eyes and Michael pulled me to him.

"Shh. It'll be okay. I'm here." I sobbed for a while until I fell asleep. Michael rubbed my newly cut hair and it felt so nice to know someone loved me. After a few hours, I woke up and Michael was out of the room.

"Michael?" The door opened and he came in with two turkey sandwiches.

"My mom wanted you to eat something so... here." He handed me one and sat down with his own.

Thanks Michael." He took a bite out of his and smiled.

"She always makes the best sandwiches." I took a bite of mine and my eyes opened wide.

"This is amazing!" Michael swallowed.

"I KNOW RIGHT!" I giggled at his enthusiasm and we finished our sandwiches in silence.

"Hey." Michael finally interrupted the quiet.

"Hi." I teased.

"Are you gonna be okay?" Michael asked. I shrugged.

"I mean I guess. I love my dad but he called me a disappointment to him and my mom. He never knew my mom. I didn't either. He can't just say shit like that." Michael nodded.

"I agree." I laid back. Michael joined me.

"It'll be okay Jer. He just needs to see the light." I looked at Michael.

"Not like that!" I giggled.

"I love your laugh." I scoffed. "And I like my acne." Michael laughed.

"I do though!" I scoffed again and looked back up at the ceilings. It was covered in glow in the dark stars.

"Jeremy." I turned over.

"Yeah?" Michael leaned in closer to me.

"What would you do if I were to tell you I love you?" I blushed.

"I guess what I just did." Michael giggled at me.

"Good." My eyes widened as his lips connected with mine. I closed them and pressed into him, wishing this moment would never end.
