Rainy days, they always made you feel so down. You thrived on sunlight and nature just like your best friend Charlie. He knew how rainy days made you feel so naturally he ran to the store, picked up some of your favorite things and then headed over to your apartment, soaking wet of course.
"Charlie." You say your heart softens seeing the grocery bags in his hand and the water dripping from his long hair. You hurry and get him a towel as he comes in and dries his hair off.
"You're soaked Char." You say grabbing the grocery bags from him and placing them on your kitchen counter. He takes off his jacket and wearing a white shirt you could see his skin. Giving you chills. You lowkey had a thing for Charlie but you were always so scared to admit it to him. He was your best friend and you couldn't lose him in your life.
"Well, gee. Thanks captain obvious." He says, throwing you a goofy smile. "Do you still have that pair of clothes here?" You like to steal his clothes, even if the two of you weren't dating. He didn't mind one bit. He loved seeing you in his clothes.
"Uh yeah, go get out of those in the bathroom and I'll bring them to you." You say biting your lower lip as he nodded walking to the bathroom as you walked over to your room. Thankfully you had stolen more than one of his shirts because you were wearing one right now. You grabbed the shirt and sweats that you had and walked them over to the bathroom and knocked on the door.
"You're a lifesaver." He says opening the door to reveal his shirtless top as you handed him the clothes winking at you. You quickly turn around and walk away so he didn't see the blush that crept up your cheeks. You had walked back over to the kitchen and started emptying the bags he had brought in. He really went out of his way, in the pouring rain, got your favorite things and then came and brought them to you.
Could you be more head over heels for this man or what.
"I tried finding the mega stuffed oreos that you like but I could only find double stuffed." He said joining you in the kitchen.
"Charlie, that's more than okay. You really didn't have to do any of this." You say
"Of course I did! It's a rainy day and you texted me saying that you weren't feeling like yourself so i took it upon myself to make your day better!" He says proudly. You send him a grateful smile as you hugged him.
"I don't know what I did to deserve you as a best friend Charlie Gillespie." Both of your hearts hurt when you said best friends. You both knew you wanted something more. He hugged you back extra tight, topping the hug off with a kiss on the top of your head.
"I'm just here to make you happy, that's my job." He says as you both pull away,
"I thought today we could just spend together watching a movie or shows and eating a lot of junk food." He says as you laugh.
"That sounds great." You say grabbing some snacks and following him over to the couch and turning the tv on. But when you turned the tv on, the power went out. It was suddenly really dark and your first instinct was to reach for Charlie. He was already right there next to you. You reached out and felt his hand grab yours.
As if this day couldn't get any worse the power was out. Living alone and having power outages was one of the worst things. You hated them. Charlie being the amazing best friend he is, knew this. So he was quick to be by your side.
"Hey, it's okay. First let's go get some of your candles and light those." He says as he turns the flashlight on his phone and guides the two of you over to where you kept your candles. You silently thanked yourself for having an unhealthy obsession with Bath and Body Works. He grabs a couple and you grab the lighter that was close by bringing them out to the coffee table and lighting them. Giving some light to the room.
"Well this is a very eventful day." Charlie says trying to lighten the mood for you. You send him a small smile before he slides over to you and scoots you as close as possible to him. Wrapping his arms around you as you both lay back on the couch.
"I'm glad you're here." You say softly, getting comfortable in his arms. Your favorite place to be. He smiles kissing your head.
"Me too,' He pauses. "Can I ask you something?" He asks
"Anything." You say, heart beating a little faster not knowing what he was about to ask.
"Do I make you nervous?" He asks very straightforwardly.
"Define nervous." You say not wanting to look up at him.
"Well, not bad, nervous. But a good nervous, like maybe butterflies almost." He says and you could feel him looking at you.
"Do you want the truth?" You say
"As honest as you can be." You sit up more so you are facing him with his arms still around you.
"Yes, you give me butterflies. You have for a very long time now. I don't even have to be around you to get these butterflies. I can just think of you, see your name pop up on my phone or even see something that reminded me of you. It's everywhere Charlie. I just never knew how to say anything to you. I mean how are you supposed to tell your best friend you might be in love with them." As soon as those words left your lips your hand flew up to cover your mouth.
"I actually said that outloud didn't I?" You say as Charlie nods not having a readable expression on his face. You quickly look away from him and start fumbling with your fingers feeling like you were going to cry.
"I'm so sorry Charlie, I've just ruined everything haven't I? I'm so stupid. It's just you asked me to be as honest as I could be and I mean I was. I just didn't mean for that last part to come out. And you're not saying anything." You say shutting up
"You didn't give me a chance to say anything." He says, placing his thumb under your chin, lifting your face to look at his.
"How are you supposed to tell your best friend that you're in love with them too." He says as his face softens, looking up from your lips to your eyes.
"Char," You say resting your forehead against his
"Do you trust me?" He says as you respond
"More than anything." That's all it took for him to grab your hand and run with you outside into the pouring rain.
"Charlie, what." You say as he lets go of your hand and runs and dances in the rain. He looked so happy. You held a goofy smile on your face as he was yelling for you to come join him. You laugh shaking your head before running out to him. He grabbed your hand and spun you around as the two of you continued dancing in the rain. You looked at Charlie and saw how happy he looked. You never felt more in love with this man than you did right now. He stopped dancing and just looked back at you.
Smiling you walked closer to him placing your hands on his face and kissed him. He smiles into the kiss lifting you up as you wrapped your legs around his waist. Lips not leaving his.
I guess you could cross two things off your bucket list. Dancing in the rain and falling in love.
