This is unedited. In this Jasmine is 12. Hope y'all enjoy.
Jesy's POV:
"This is a list of food she likes." The social worker, Ms. Michaels, hands me a paper.
I quickly scan it then hand it to Perrie.
"You already have her bags in your car. Let's see, what else is there?" Ms. Michaels taps her chin with her index finger. "You two should be prepared for her nightmares and anxiety attacks, both of which stem from the last foster home she was placed in. I'll let her tell you about that when and if she's comfortable. After an anxiety attack, she'll be more attached to whichever one of you helps her through it, so don't feel bad if she's hanging on to one of you more than the other. It's nothing personal, it's just how she is. That being said, don't feel bad if she doesn't open up to you or show any emotion right away, it may take some time for her to be comfortable around you."
"Do you have her anxiety medication?"
"It's in one of her bags. She's one of the only kids here that we trust and are capable enough to handle their medication."
"Is there anything else we need to know before we pick her up?" Asks Perrie.
"You might have some trouble getting her up for school. She loves playing volleyball but she hates going to school. She's said she would give up playing volleyball if it meant she didn't have to go to school anymore."
"Is she being bullied?" I question.
Ms. Michaels nods. "The kids pick on her because of her eyes and because of this, she wears a pair of sunglasses at all times except when she's playing volleyball. She has heterochromia iridum, which means her eyes are two different colors. One eye is blue and the other is hazel."
It pisses me off that Jasmine is being bullied. I look at Pez and can tell she feels the same way.
"Can we go pick her up now?"
"Of course." She turns to look at a woman probably in her early twenties. "Where is Jasmine today, Ava?"
"She has a game today, so she's down the street at the gym."
"If you'll follow me, I'll take you to her."
We follow Ms. Michaels out the front door of the orphanage and down the street to the gym, Jade and Leigh joining us on the walk as they had been waiting for us at the car. When we enter the gym, Ms. Michaels points to a group of four girls standing on the court, one of which is Jasmine based on the description we were given.
"Obviously the one wearing the sunglasses is Jasmine. The girl hugging her is Chloe. Beside Chloe is Roselyn and the girl with curly hair is Astrid. Those three are her best friends and probably one of the only reasons she's still in school." She looks at us and smiles. "Are you ready to officially meet her?"
"Yes!" Pez and I exclaim together.
"I'll go get her."
She walks over to the group of girls.
"Why haven't yous met her yet?" Jade asks.
"She didn't want to meet us and get her hopes up about being adopted only for it to fall through." Pezza replies.
"It's apparently happened before. This is her way of protecting herself." I say.
"Jesy, Perrie!" Ms. Michaels motions us over to her and the girls.
Pez, Jade, Leigh-Anne, and I walk over to them.
"Jasmine, these are the ladies I was telling you about. Jesy and Perrie are the ones adopting you." She points to us as she says our names.
