Chapter seventeen

Lucien knew what was coming as his parents announced the engagement between him and Tatiana, he saw people toasting them and he didn't look at Victoria, he couldn't. He had broken her heart and if only he told her what he was doing then she would still be sitting there waiting for him but he couldn't tell her.
He knew she had left, there were people talking about her, he felt Tatiana holding his hand, he waited until it was quiet and just before his father began to speak about another successful year for their company, he cleared his throat and pulled Tatiana's hand away from him and stepped forward.

"I would like to make an announcement", he said, his lips thinned and his eyes narrowed as he turned to look at his parents. "I'm not with Tatiana nor am I engaged to her!", he heard her gasp his name and he laughed as he turned round to all the crowd, "all lies I'm afraid, Tatiana here", he pushed her forward "has been making up stories, I have never dated her, let alone been with her! I am with the most glamorous, beautiful woman in the purple dress who was sitting over there and she is the one who I love well and truly and she is the one I will marry!" He nodded to their now empty table.

He turned to his parents who were looking both shocked and embarrassed, he shook his head, he was ashamed about them, "you saw me with Victoria and just because she didn't suit your standards, you ignored her and pushed this horrible despicable woman in front of her!" He shook his head, "you can't control me and to show you both that, I resign."

He heard the murmurs, how exciting for them all, he thought as the cameras were recording aswell as flashing, he smiled and turned back round. "I have my own company, I've owned that company for five years now", he now had his parents speechless and Tatiana's face was as red as a tomato, he could see she was trying to hold back a tantrum and that's what made him laugh loudly. "Now if you excuse me, I have to find the woman I love and grovel to her", and that was going to be hard he thought as he walked past everyone and walked out.

Victoria held back her tears until she got home, it was an awful night, she thought as there was not one woman that was nice there. His parents didn't make an effort to try and like her and the icing on the cake was Lucien not speaking up and denying his engagement.
She cried as she unclasped the necklace and when getting changed into her nightgown and dressing gown. She wondered what was going to happen now? How she was going to face him and what if he brings her back to his house? She placed her hands in her face, she knew it was a bad idea from the beginning to get involved with him and she was right.

Lucien got a cab to take him home, to see Victoria, he saw her lights were off as he walked to her house, he knocked on the door but there was no answer. He pulled his phone out from his pocket and sent her a text, Victoria please, I am not engaged and nor do I love her, I kept quiet because I needed my parents to say what they had to and then I spoke up and I told them that I love you and that I have resigned from their company because I have my own. Please open the door so I can see you and so I can explain more.

Victoria lay in her bed, she couldn't sleep and she heard her phone make a noise to let her know that she had a text. She didn't want to read it but she knew eventually she would have no choice so she opened it and she read the text. She knew the proof would be there online so why would he lie? She thought, she closed her eyes knowing that she was going to have to speak to him in the morning.
Victoria found herself waking up the next morning to another text but this time from Marie and she found herself looking at videos and articles from last night and what Lucien had said, she bit her lip, she couldn't believe that he announced to everyone there that he loved her.

She jumped out of bed and then suddenly she found herself on his doorstep wearing her short nightgown, dressing gown and slippers and knocking on his door loudly.

Lucien woke up to hear frantic knocking on his door and he knew who it was, he ran down stairs in just his black boxer shorts and answered the door to Victoria leaping on him and kissing him, he felt her wrap her legs around his waist as he carried her in. He slammed the door shut and Victoria stopped kissing him then, "I love you too", she smiled before kissing down his cheek.
Lucien was the happiest he had ever felt, he was free from his parents and Victoria loved him, he sat down on the sofa with her still in his arms, "I'm so sorry about last night and the way my parents went on with you. I want nothing more to do with them and I proved it last night and the same with Tatiana, she is a poisonous viper that had to be taken down and I did in front of everyone including the paparazzi."

Victoria couldn't help but giggle as he said, "I swear you will never have to attend any more of them galas or see anymore of those people again." Victoria shook her head, "I clean Tatiana's house but I think I will be giving that job to someone else and finding another home to clean instead."
She leaned against his chest, "why did you not tell me what you were going to do? I wonder what happened after you left?" Lucien shrugged his shoulders, "well I think Tatiana got into the tantrum that she was trying to put off and my parents would have died from embarrassment and I didn't want you to be involved, all of them there would be calling you names and I don't want to see you get dragged into that world, it's nasty."

Lucien hugged her closer to him, "and anyway if you want to find out what happened after, you can always go online on thise gossip sites, there will be plenty on there." Victoria cringed, "and I will be on there too because they would have seen me run away", Lucien nodded, "not forgetting though that they will have video recordings of me telling everyone that I love you."
She giggled and kissed his chest as she looked up at him, "yes there is that too", she agreed, he leaned down and kissed her neck, "I want to date you officially and take you to restaurants where you will be respected and no one will bother us", Victoria felt happy at this thought and she nodded her head, "I will like that."

He smiled down at her, "good", he kissed her lips softly, "now what about some coffee?" She nodded and then laughed holding onto his neck as he carried her into the kitchen.
