Chapter 12

IT WAS GETTING closer to Christmas as the days went by. There was only a few days away to the 25th and everybody was in a Christmassy mood. Izaya, in particular.

It was a surprise to him, because in the past he wasn't much into Christmas. Or maybe it was because he spent the holidays alone, with no family or friends around, and that included no presents. But this year was going to be different. He would spend it at Shinra’s with Shinra, of course, Celty and Shizuo, and he would get presents this year.

And he was currently getting into the Christmas spirit. He sat upon Shinra and Celty's couch, listening to Christmas music. Mainly music from abroad, the UK and the US in particular, with the odd Japanese Christmas songs thrown in. All and all he was enjoying himself.

He was listening to 'Last Christmas.' by Wham! when Shizuo walked in, wrapped in a scarf and a big coat. It was getting colder outside.

Izaya looked up and grinned, "You look adorable, Shizuo."

Shizuo blushed and shook his head, "Yeah, right. I look everything but... but at least I'm warm, I suppose."

"How is it today?" Shinra asked. He was stood in the kitchen preparing hot drinks for everyone.

"The weather? It's freezing. I heard on the radio that it's going to snow again, later on today." Shizuo replied, as he was taking off his coat.

[Hey. Where did you go?] Celty asked, as she walked through the living-room door.

"Oh. I went out to see my boss. I'm going to be starting work again after the new year, sometime in January. I was talking to Tom, and he was letting me know of some debt collectors, that are constantly refusing to pay, which isn't nothing new, I guess."

[Did you recognise anyone we know?] Celty typed.

"Hmm? Oh, yeah. I walked past Masaomi." At that, Izaya looked up, "He didn't look happy. Something about the Blue Squares. Is Mikado still hanging out, well, still using them, I suppose is the right terminology, right?"

"Last time I checked. Which was a long time, like we all know. Then again, after what the Blue Squares did to the Yellow Scarves, I'm not surprised." Izaya said, but felt stupid because he helped the Blue Squares, and was the one that put the idea into their heads, even if Saki agreed to the idea. It was all a ridiculous mess.

[I think they'll always be a feud between the two gangs.] Celty typed, [and the last time I bumped into Mikado, he wasn't acting like himself. He seemed so crazy.]

"Well, you can blame me for all my ideas. Remember I was trying to cause trouble between each of the gangs." Izaya sighed.

[That might be true, but Mikado would of done everything without any help. I think the whole idea of wanting to make the Dollars as it was, is making Mikado... change?]

"He's so set on making the Dollars what it was before. But the Dollars will always change, so I don't think that's even possible. People in the Dollars will always do the wrong things. They're not all saints. There's drug dealers in the Dollars, dodgy people. You can't force them to change, and using the Blue Squares won't help the situation, either." Izaya said, leaning back onto the couch.

[I don't think Mikado will stop his ideas. Not even his friends can change his mind, especially not with Aoba hanging around.]

"Did you see anybody else?" Shinra asked, tilting his head.
