Dex:
Ugh.
Dex was trying to be rational about this, but was failing miserably. How could he not like Sophie? He'd been chasing her affection for years! There was the possibility that.... NO! Dex shut down that thought immediately. He'd never heard of a boy liking another boy, so that couldn't possibly be it. He couldn't possibly like the guy he'd been trying to stop obsessing over, with his stupid beautiful eyes, and his handsome sharp features, and his dumb, soft looking hair. Dex wanted to test that theory, to find out if his chocolate brown hair truly was as soft as it loo- STOP IT DEX! He began to scold himself internally as he dug out his pathfinder to go find Sophie.
"Here we go again, KEEFE! SOPHIE JUST SAW Y- Oh, hey Dex," Grady said as he opened the door, obviously expecting Sophie's Empath boyfriend to be behind it, not Dex. "Hey Uncle Grady, is Sophie in her room?", Dex asked, trying to act casual when he felt as though he was going to explode. "Yeah, go ahead, she'll be glad to see you," Grady said as he stepped aside to let Dex in.
"Sophie?", Dex called as he knocked on the door, "care to help your incredible, amazing best friend that you love very much even though things are very awkward with him right nowwww?". "Dex?!?", Sophie called back as he heard a lot of scrambling and crashing, "YES! I- I mean- ahem, yeah sure, I'm not busy."
"Whoa.....", Sophie said after Dex explained the weird feelings he'd been having. "It's not possible, right? Tell me it isn't possible!", Dex pleaded, his desperation to be wrong rising by the second. "I'm sorry Dex, but I think you might like-", Sophie was cut off by Dex's hand going over her mouth, his other hand behind her head gently, his eyes seemed to be begging something of her. "Don't- don't say his name right now.... I can't- he's just too much for me. I love my dad more than anything, but he's Talentless, so I'd never be accepted by a-", Dex's voice became thick and he choked, "a Vacker," he whispered the last part, as if saying it softly made it less true. Sophie immediately grasped him in a tight hug, knowing he needed someone to sink into and be comforted by.
Fitz:
"Biana!", Fitz shouted, growing frustrated at his little sister's shenanigans, "I cannot believe you'd suggest such a thing, I don't just like Sophie in my head because she's powerful and I feel it's my duty as a Vacker to marry someone and become an incredible power couple dynamic duo!". "Uhm- I only suggested you may have different feelings in your head and heart....", Biana corrected, making Fitz blush at the realization that she was right. She'd only suggested he may not have the same feelings in his head and heart. He'd actually figured it out as soon as Keefe explained his father's book in detail, but he couldn't for the life of him figure out who truly had his heart. He thought it might be Linh for a while, but he quickly realized that was another power thing. He didn't truly love a girl who was super powerful. But then.... No, no it couldn't be. His entire group was powerful if he was being honest, meaning if he didn't love a powerful girl. Well, he certainly didn't love anyone outside their group simply because he didn't know anyone else well enough to love them. Her. Them? Why had he automatically said them, when he had always said "her" when thinking about his future significant other...? But that wasn't possible, he had to marry a girl. He was a Vacker. He had to be...... Perfect... Even when he didn't want to be perfect.
Dex:
"I cannot believe you are doing this to me Sophie, we're supposed to be best friends!", Dex whined as he and Sophie glittered into sight at the gates of the Vacker estate (remember, this takes place back in book 6). "I'm doing this because I'm your best friend!", Sophie responded, shoving him to ring the bell (idk if they have a doorbell man, I'm tired lol). Biana bolted out the door and opened the gate, at least, that's what DEX assumed based on the fact that she's Biana.
"Hey!", she said cheerily as she led them in. Sophie and Biana shared a devilish look and a high five as Fitz came down the stairs. "Biana? What's so important that you had to wake me up at this unholy hour of eight am?", He said sleepily. Sophie let out a giggle at his disheveled appearance, whereas Dex just stared. If he had any doubt of his feelings before, they were long gone now. Fitz's chocolate brown hair was messy and fluffed, looking much better than his regular perfectionistic style in Dex's opinion, his teal eyes glittered with the reflection of the chandelier hanging from the ceiling, drowsy and half-lidded, and his large hand scratched his ribs, accidentally lifting his blue pajama shirt to reveal his toned abs. He seemed to have noticed Dex's stares because he looked away, blushing profusely. Dex inwardly slapped himself, mentally scolding himself to stop making Fitz feel uncomfortable. He definitely can't possibly like guys, so Dex thought he'd be squirmish at the sight of one so openly gaping at him.
Fitz:
Dex had been staring, making Fitz feel really self-conscious. His strong crimson blush rivaled some of the ones Sophie had given over the years, slipping down his normally pale face, even reaching his lower neck and the tips of his ears. As he looked away, he thought of the way Dex had looked. He was dressed in a pale purple tunic with black pants and dark shoes. Fitz could see a bit of his periwinkle socks peeking out above his shoes, complimenting his beautiful eyes- wait what?- as he strode up the stairs with Biana and Sophie. "Hey boys," Biana said sweetly, "will you two go get us a towel from that closet?". Sophie nodded, so Fitz trusted her and pulled Dex along to the closet they were talking about. He immediately felt his cheeks heat at the way Dex's small hand seemed to fit perfectly in his larger one. His cheeks heated as he pulled the smaller boy into the closet, hearing giggles and a click. "Uhm- what was that?", Dex asked, clinging to Fitz's arm, making Fitz blush even harder. "I uh-", Fitz shook his head to clear it of the odd thoughts rolling in, "I think they locked us in!". He hit the light to try to make it a bit less awkward, but that only made him more aware of the fact that the closet they were in had literally no more space. Dex whimpered a bit, making Fitz wonder why he seemed to be so scared to move.
Dex:
Dex was aware he was clinging to Fitz, but being in such a small area only reminded him of his kidnapping, when he was stuck in that same position for days, not wanting Sophie to be hurt. He whimpered and saw Fitz give him a confused look. "I-", he sucked in a breath, trying to calm himself as there was nothing around for him to tinker with to keep busy, "I just don't like very small spaces, it reminds me of-", he choked and his voice cut off, but Fitz seemed to get the message. He wrapped Dex in a tight hug with his large arms wrapped around Dex's waist and his head resting on Dex's shoulder. Dex sank into his embrace, wrapping his own smaller arms around Fitz's wide shoulders and shoving his face into the older boy's neck. This hug scared him more than he'd ever admit because it just felt so right, when he knew he was wrong for not letting Fitz know this is how he truly felt. He sucked in a shaky breath, and pulled himself back. "Thanks," he sighed. "No need to thank me Dex, I just wanted to help, and uhm- I dunno if it was like this for you, but that hug just felt so.... Natural. So uhm- good...", Fitz trailed off and blushed again. Dex followed his lead and his face lit up like what Sophie called a "neon sign". "Hey uhm- Dex....", Fitz said slowly, as if he was trying to convince himself of something, "I think the way your socks match your eyes and makes them pop is beautiful." "M-me? B-b-beautiful?", Dex stuttered, suddenly aware of the fact that their foreheads were touching. He closed his eyes and sucked in a breath. "Can I kiss you?", he blurted out. "Wait- you- we- kiss- us-?", Fitz was struggling to form a cohesive sentence as Dex hung his head, not ready for rejection. "Sorry," he said quickly, "I'm sure you don't want to-", he was cut off by Fitz's soft lips meeting his own. His eyes flew open before fluttering shut as he leaned into the kiss fully.
Maybe a Vacker could like a Dizznee after all......
