Keefe Angst

I'm doing an angst from when Sophie and Dex were "dead", enjoy, or actually- nvm, you probably won't enjoy this....

"No...", is all Keefe said as the scroll he'd been holding dropped to the ground. He hadn't known Dex very well, but he regretted that now. He hadn't even known Foster for a year, but this, this made him feel a soul-sucking emptiness in his core that made him want to either scream or cry out from the sheer pain of this emotion. He stood there, body violently shaking with harsh sobs, hand covering his mouth to try to contain himself, try to keep it in, but it wasn't working. He dropped to his knees and yelled, "NO!". It couldn't possibly have happened. She couldn't have left him that way when they didn't even get to know each other. He didn't get to show her the secret Mentor's cafeteria he'd found. He didn't get to give her Prattles pins and name them goofy things to make her laugh. He didn't get to hear her adorable laugh enough. They never got to do a lot of things, and Keefe regretted it. He regretted not doing everything he could to make her smile, all the time. He got up, trudged to the Vortinator, went to his room, and cried. He cried for so long, he didn't even know what day it was.

Keefe pulled on his deep emerald green jerkin as he wiped his tear-stained face. It was actually happening. Dex and Sophie were dead.

Gone.

His mother peeked into his room, seeing if he'd gotten dressed, and pulled him along to the Leapmaster, where Cassius was waiting.

"Wanderling Woods," he whispered. His voice was hoarse from not being used since the day they'd received the news of his friends' deaths. They had apparently drowned, outside the caves at Havenfield.

As Keefe and his parents walked through the suffocatingly silent woods, all his memories of Sophie passed. There weren't nearly enough. He had even less memories of Dex. He regretted so much. Dex didn't deserve this, and neither did his family. Dex was such a funny, kind kid, it made Keefe wonder why it took him so long to actually see Dex.

And then he remembered why he saw Dex in the first place.

Sophie Elizabeth Foster. She saw something in people that no one else ever could. She saw a light, even when it was muffled by the gruesome shadows. She even saw a light in Keefe. Something that made him worth keeping around.

Keefe neared the front of the extremely long line, he hadn't even realized he'd gotten in line. He did a lot without realizing these days. He trudged up to a sobbing Edaline and a guilt wracked Grady. "Lord and Lady Ruewen. I'm so, so sorry for your loss. Sophie was the most amazing person I'd ever met," Keefe said sadly, in his still hoarse voice. His father shot him a look of disapproval, then his mother leaned down to "fix" his hair. He didn't even fight it. Grady looked at him in shock as he allowed his hair to be touched by anyone other than himself as Keefe shot the two grieving parents a sad, but reassuring smile. He saw a lot of people he knew in the crowds. He saw all the Vacker's, looking wrecked, but he didn't blame them, the Dizznee's were down the stage, accepting condolences from everyone there, he saw Marella, Jensi, and he even saw Stina looking upset. For some reason, Councillor Oralie was looking extremely broken, as was Councillor Kenric, who looked like he was trying to calm her.

"Pick your head up, now," Cassius growled, startling him out of his trance. Edaline looked up from Grady's shirt for a moment in shock. "Excuse me, what did you just say to him?", she asked, sounding angry. "Edaline, it's oka-", Keefe said as Edaline narrowed her eyes at his father. "No, Keefe, it's not "okay". My daughter is dead. Nothing is okay right now. You should be allowed to grieve for Sophie just like everyone else, yet your imbecile father chooses now to be his regular idiotic self!", Edaline exclaimed, still crying, causing a few heads to turn. "Eda-", Grady said, trying to sound calm, but failing. "No, I won't tolerate this at my daughter's planting! Get away from Keefe now," Edaline snarled at Cassius. He shot Keefe a stern look that made him a bit scared for what would happen once they got back to Candleshade, and dragged Gisela off to who knows where. "I'm sorry Keefe, it wasn't my place to do that," Edaline said, seeming to realize what she'd said as she cupped a hand over her mouth. Keefe immediately wrapped her in a large hug whispering, "Thank you. No one else has ever stood up for me like that except-", his raspy voice caught, "except Sophie." Grady looked genuinely concerned, but nodded at Keefe. Edaline let him go and he walked over to say another thick-voiced "I'm sorry for your loss" to the Dizznee family. Rex and Kesler seemed especially torn apart, disheveled more than usual, eyes red and puffy, but all the Dizznee's were obviously upset. Keefe wasn't able to focus well, but something seemed so inherently wrong about Sophie's tree. Maybe it was just the fact that she had a tree in the first place, but it just didn't seem like her.

Keefe stopped sobbing for a few moments to pick up his Imparter that had just started buzzing, "H-hello?", he croaks tiredly as he was half asleep from the sedative his mother gave him. "KEEFE, KEEFE, QUICKLY DO YOU KNOW OF A TREE THAT HAS HSJSJDHSJSJSJHDJSJDYEJAJSUDJSJAVHXDJSHDH? (I forgot the description of the Four Seasons Tree don't judge me lol) IT'S IMPORTANT!", Fitz's loud voice booked through the Imparter. "Geez man, the Four Seasons Tree?", Keefe asked, rubbing the sleep from his weary eyes. "Meet me at Everglen. Now.", Fitz said with an urgency that for whatever reason, Keefe didn't want to argue with, so he got himself out of bed for the first time in days, got dressed in his most bland black tunic, and went to see Fitz.

"SOPHIE?!?", Keefe shouted as loud as his raspy voice allowed him when they arrived at the Four Seasons Tree. He spotted a very sickly looking Dex laying so still he was almost afraid... No. They'd already lost those two once, they wouldn't do it again. "Grab Dex Biana, Fitz, hail Elwin, I'm looking for Sophie," Keefe ordered as he began to search for her. "N-n-no need," Biana stuttered, picking up Dex gently, "I f-f-found her." She pointed to an almost faded Sophie laying at the base of the tree. Keefe immediately swore under his breath, "Alright, Fitz, get Elwin now! We can't risk leaping her, there's no way she'll make it. Biana, when he gets here, you tell him everything about the injuries you can see on Dex- and Fitz, you help her. There's no way we're losing them again." Biana and Fitz looked shocked that he was so orderly, but the truth was, he had to be. He couldn't risk letting himself be a mess and Dex and Sophie actually dying because of it.

"Fitz, if this is a joke-", Elwin said as he leaped into sight, cutting himself off with a gasp. "Can you fix her Elwin?!?", Fitz asked worriedly. Biana hugged Dex, who was still unconscious. "Yes, I have to. We lost her once, we're not going to do it again," Elwin said determinedly. Keefe, Fitz, and Biana nodded and Elwin began working on the injuries he could and hailed people to bring him the supplies he needed. Keefe, Fitz, and Biana all helped in any way they could, but mostly they just stood there or paced around while Elwin did his thing. Fitz and Biana looked at Keefe quite a few times in confusion as they'd never seen him this worried over anyone.

That day, Keefe vowed he'd do whatever it took to make sure she always made it back to them. No matter what. Even if it meant he had to sacrifice himself, or worse, leave her, he'd do whatever it took for her to be the hero she was obviously made to be. The leader.

The Moonlark.

Lol did ya like it? I gave it a sort of bittersweet end, but all in all, that was hecca sad and hard to write. Imagining Keefe sad is like trying to imagine a kitten being yelled at, IT HURTS ME!!!!! Anyways, hope y'all got emotional I guess? I don't really know the goal of angst in case that wasn't clear lol
