She carried long, brass scissors, the red flames shimmering in the reflection as she walked towards me.

I let her, my hair flowing in the wind. I looked right at her.

"This was your journal.. wasn't it."

It was quiet, her shoes sending hollow clacks against the floor.

"It was..."

"And you aren't Misaki."

"No.. it's Misaki's body I want to collect. I figured if I used his name, I can avoid any explanations."

"You.. you're just using people so you can make someone you already loss?!"

Tiny arms grabbed at my feet, but I already knew what they were. I couldn't move my legs.

"I suppose you can say that."

"You loved Misaki. Didn't you. I feel like, as a teacher, Misaki wouldn't be very happy with you killing and torturing kids. Wouldn't he?" I stood my ground. I don't know what goes through me in these situations, but for some reason, I can look death in the eyes. This whole thing was entirely new to me.

A few weeks ago I wouldn't have to deal with all these ghosts. This is the most I've ever had to deal with almost dying. I felt my string of life be so close to snapping multiple times just today.

And what did I do? I adjusted as if I've been dealing with apparitions my whole life. I'm so tired. I didn't want to act like I knew what I was doing, because I didn't, but someone has to. The two boys fought so much that I had to do most of the work, even though one of them is a trained exorcist and knows about all this stuff about apparitions, and the other is a literal apparition! And what am I? A young girl on student council, one of the smartest kids in school who just wanted her friend back!

"Goodness." She swayed, that sauntered smile on her face. She swung the scissors into the tree behind me, causing my back to jump with the sudden contact. "You think I didn't know that!"

"Misaki treasured his students as if they were his own. If he found out what I've been doing he would be quite crossed with me. But I wouldn't mind.. it's what I want. I would love to hear him scold me again!"

I saw her reel up the blades, ready to cut me. I just looked up at her. What else was I supposed to do? Run?

Then, in a flash of white, the scissors were gone, landing in the dirt a little farther away.

I saw Ku floating around.

"Number 7!!" The lady yelled in annoyance.

"Hey, Ku. Thank you." It wished past my cheek, freckling a soft warmth. I smiled as it wavered over to its beholder.
