Pag pasok ko ng classroom Shin welcomed me with a wide smile. He even hugged me for Pete's sake, nababakla ata ang gago.
"yow dre, what the fuck?" usal ko habang tinatanggal ang yakap niya saakin "what's the matter with you?" kunot noong tanong ko sakanya.
"nothing, I'm just thankful" he casually said then guilt started to consume me knowing that he's thankful because I'm helping him with Ice. I'm so dead when Ice found this out but I'm doing this for her. Really.
"why? is she your girlfriend already?" that question scares me, I don't really want to know if they are official already. I don't want to see Ice in tears.
"not yet, but we're about to be" he confidently said then I looked at him and give him a 'really?' look, his confidence faded "hopefully"
I tapped his shoulder "kaya mo yan, Thyrix"
He nod "thanks Jake"
Nilampasan ko siya at umupo na sa upuan ko. Kaibigan ko na si Shin bago ko pa nakilala si Ice, we call each other with our second names para mawala yung "formality" namin sa isa't isa. Then Shin, or Thyrix entered basketball so we have to part ways, hindi kami madalas nagkakausap pero alam namin na magkaibigan parin kami.
Others said that I should join the basketball team too since Thyrix is the current captain but I decline. I rather spend my time on studying especially I'm not going to study here in the Philippines. And I'm not that athletic. I'd rather watch sports than do it my self.
"I'm curious, as future doctors how will you defend heart against the brain and the other way around?" our prof said while she's flipping through her book
Agad akong nag taas ng kamay "I'll defend the heart, miss" then she instructed me to come infront
"another?"
Shin raised his hand "I'll go for it"
Our classmates started to cheer us both. Some are already placing bets.
Shin and I faced each other with smirks, nag toss coin kami at nauna si Thyrix. "please proceed" sabi ng prof namin.
"well, I'm defending the brain for it is the most important organ in our body, without your brain you can't live" Shin confidently said with his arms in his pockets and a grin on his face.
"really?" I asked sarcastically. "tanggalin ko ang puso mo Mr. Soliman mabubuhay ka pa kaya?" I asked and everyone one laugh including our prof.
"bakit kapag ba tinanggal ko utak mo kahit may puso ka mabubuhay ka ba? you see brain works independetly-"
"your brain needs oxygen, and heart pumps oxygenated blood so now tell me paano kung tumigil sa pag tibok ang puso anong magagawa ng utak?" Pangangatwiran ko sakanya.
