ADAM POV
"Adam..."
The sound of Amara's voice made me jump. I'd been throwing out all the dead flowers in the room. I wanted to be the first person she sees when she woke up. I've gotten my wish. I let go of the flowers and got to her a split second before Sara and the nurse. She took off her oxygen mask, hands shaking.
I crushed her in a huge hug.
"That...hurts," She croaked out. I loosened my grip but didn't let go. I pushed her back on her pillows and kissed her. I don't care who was watching. these last few weeks had dragged on forever. She pushed me away and took gasps of air.
"What...Are...you...doing," She panted, trying to swallow the dryness in her throat, "I want...water,"
Her voice was deep and croaky but I don't care. She's alive, and she remembers me.
The nurse rushed to grab a bottle and held it to her cracked lips to drink. She took a few sips and collapsed back to her pillow. How can she still be exhausted after sleeping non-stop?
"What happened?" Her voice was still low but less dry.
"What do you last remember?" If she forgot all of the things that happened that day, then I don't want to remind her. Especially the fact I called her a whore.
"I remember..." Amara frowned, "Dancing to my song. Seeing you watching me with James. The rest is darkness,"
Oh god. She forgot everything that happened that day. Well I intend to keep it like that. I couldn't stop smiling.
"You fell into a coma. We're not sure what happened. You just...collapsed after I switched off the music. Your Dad thought it was your iron deficiency playing up so we gave you blood but then you weren't waking up," I lied. I'm protecting her, for her own good.
Sara shot me a look that said, is that really a good idea. I gave a stony glare back.
"Where...is James?" She looked expectantly around, waiting for him to pop out. I sighed, rubbing my temples.
The smile slid off my face.
"He's gone away for a bit. We're not sure when he'll be back," Sara interrupted, smoothing her hair.
"How long was I asleep for?"
"4 and a half weeks. It's early June now,"
The heartbeat monitor she was still hooked up to, started speeding up, horribly reminiscent to when she almost died.
"W...What?" She stammered, "I've been asleep for a month? My wedding is in 3 weeks?"
Sara's concerned look mirrored my own. Amara was getting freaked out and then the nurse kicked us out. Great.
Apparently, it's normal for coma patients to wake up and have panic attacks about the time so they sedated her. Hassan came running after his conference finished.
"What happened?"
"She woke up. Doesn't remember anything that happened that day. Tell her that James went on some world tour. She's sedated right now because she was getting agitated about the date," Sara said hurriedly.
🗲
"My...head hurts," Amara said groggily as we crowded around her, "I'm...hungry,"
Hassan nodded towards the housemaid who strolled off to get Amara something to eat. Word had gotten around that Amara had woken and there was a horde to her street all the way to the park opposite her house. Those days when she was asleep were almost worse than when she left me.
