*A week later*
I sat down on my couch, and was deep in thought. I was thinking about my abnormal life. What a disaster I am. I knew I was going to spend the rest of my life alone.
My phone buzzed, which snapped me back to reality. I looked at the Caller I.D.
It was a number I didn't recognize the number. I hit answer anyway.
"Hello?" I said in a monotone into the receiver.
"Heyo!" A familiar voice said. Then, it hit me.
It was Jimmy.
I blushed. "Oh. Hey. What's up?"
"Not much, really. So, uh..." Jimmy trailed off. "I have nothing planned today, and I was thinking...Maybe, just maybe, I can take you to this carnival opening tonight."
I giggled. He was such a little kid. "Um, I'm pretty sure I have nothing planned today." I don't have anything on my agenda for the rest of my life, to be honest.
"Alright! It's a date!" I said, my cheeks getting hot. Jimmy snickered on the other end.
"We're going on a date?" I could feel him smirking on the other end.
"Anyways," I swiftly changed the subject. "What time? Do you just wanna meet me there?"
"Nah, I'll pick you up."
"You sure?" I asked, worried that I pushed him.
"Yeah, it's no trouble. I'll pick you up around 7:30 p.m., is that fine?"
"Yeah, totally. I look forward to it." And then I realized, I meant it. I was probably going to have the most fun I've had in the past few years.

Around 7:25, I finished up getting dressed, and putting my usual pounds of eyeliner on. I wish I wasn't so dark and I didn't make myself look ridiculous, but it's just...me.
I took one last look at myself in the mirror. I wore ripped shorts, and a Pink Floyd shirt with short sleeves. I shrugged, then waited outside.
Jimmy pulled up with a mischievous grin on his face. I chuckled, and walked to his car. I sat in the passenger seat.
"Hey, I love your shirt. Pink Floyd is awesome." Jimmy said, reversing the car and pulling out of my driveway.
"Oh man, you like Pink Floyd? God, this friendship is gonna be fun." I said as I buckled my seatbelt.

When we got to the carnival, my jaw nearly dropped to the ground. There were countless rides, and they all look so new.
"Holy Jesus f-"
"Okay, no cursing." Jimmy said in a funny voice I couldn't put my finger on. "Keep it clean, Mel."
I laughed, and we adventured and examined all of the rides.
"Close your eyes," Jimmy said, whirling me around.
"What?" I said, utterly confused.
"Close 'em." I smirked, and closed them. Jimmy led me somewhere. To be honest, I was nervous of where he was taking me.
"Up the steps!" Jimmy helped me up. I nearly tripped, but Jimmy caught me, his hands on my hips. We were still for a minute, and continued walking. That was awkward.
"Hold on, don't open yet!" Jimmy said briskly. "Okay...you can open now."
My eyes fluttered, and I opened my eyes. I looked around, and I noticed I was on one of those Deadly Drops, where you go 50 feet high, and drop.
My eyes widened. "No, no, no. Jimmy, I can't. I have a really bad phobia of heights." I started trembling.
"Well, this will help you overcome it." Jimmy said with a grin.
The riser started going up. My heart was pounding. I've had an irrational fear of heights since I was little.
"Oh god...no!" The riser stopped. It paused for a second. I closed my eyes, and gulped.
"Don't look down!" Jimmy said. I slowly looked down, and, as if on cue, the risers dropped without a warning. A scream was stuck in my throat. When we reached the bottom, I started laughing hysterically.
"Holy shit! You were right!" I said, taking a breath of relief.
"See?" Jimmy said enthusiastically.

I realized that I was right, this was he best day I've had in three years. More like my whole life.
Once the carnival closed for the night, Jimmy and I walked back to his car, and got in.
"God, that was awesome. And, bonus, I got over my acrophobia." I smiled. "Thank you. This was the best day I've had in a while."
Jimmy waited to start the car, and looked over at me. "Me too."
I looked into Jimmy's glimmering eyes. We both leaned in at the same time, and our lips nearly touched, but I backed away fast. Jimmy awkwardly rubbed his neck, and started the car.

He drove to my house without any more words. Damn, that was awkward. What got into me? I need to realize how much I just screwed everything up.
"Thanks again," I said quietly, getting out of the car.
"No problem." Jimmy said, awkwardness showing in his tone. I closed the car door, and walked in.
I screwed everything up, just like everything else.
•Jimmy•
I put my head on the steering wheel. "Great job, Jimmy." I whispered to myself. My fists were trembling, I was so mad at myself. I just ruined my chance at not making things awkward with the most beautiful girl I have ever laid eyes on.
I screwed everything up, just like everything else.

They think the same, don't they? 😂
