Chapter 5

“Hello, Behati?” Christina answered.

“Yes. It’s me. Um, are you busy tomorrow?” Behati asked.

“No, not really, why?”

“I just want to talk to you.”

“Sure. How about after lunch, since I have to take Max to her dad.”

“Sure. No problem.”

Then Christina hangs up. She was wondering why Behati would want to talk to her. Was it about Adam? Probably, since they just broke up. But why would she want to talk to her about him? Maybe, to tell her to take care of Adam because she still loves him but he already loves her, she wondered. She kept on thinking whether to tell Adam about this or not. She decided later on, it’s no big deal.

The next morning, Christina prepared Max’s things. After doing all her daily routine, she brought Max to her dad. It was quick. She just said hi to Jordan and told him to take care of Max. She kissed Max before she set off. While inside the car, her phone rang:

“Hey, Chris, where are you?” Adam asked.

“Oh, I have some important meeting to go to. I’m sorry,” she apologized feeling a little guilty for not telling him that she would meet Behati.

“Oh. It’s okay. I just thought we could have lunch today.”

“How about dinner?” she suggested.

“Sure. Whose place?”

“Mine,” she thought she heard him laugh.

“That’s a good place for dinner!” he said with so much excitement in his voice.

“Yea, sounds fun, huh?”

“Sure. So, later?”

“Yes. I love you!”

“I love you too!”

Christina was blushing when she hangs up her phone. She missed this feeling. It’s been a long time since she felt like this. She was thankful that Adam knew how to make her happy. Adam knew exactly what a girl wants. That’s when she thought, they’ll last longer. She was almost positive about it.

“Hey, you came,” Behati said as she stood up from her sit to hug Christina. Christina was a little bit shocked with Bee’s gesture. They weren't close. Yes, they've met each other before on set but they were never that close.

“Yes,” all she managed to say.

They both sat down. They ordered first before they get to business.

“What are you gonna tell me?” Christina asked.

“So, I just learned that you and Adam are dating?” Bee asked with a sly smile on her face.

“Yes. Did Adam tell you that?”

“Yes. And I was surprised to hear that.”

“Oh, really? Why would you?” Christina sounded a little bit bitchy with those last words. But she didn't mean to sound like that.

Behati thought of what she was going to tell her. She didn't want to hurt Adam’s feelings but how long would he keep this from Christina? She couldn't take it any longer. Christina has to know this, she told herself. It’s better to tell this to her now than later. She would know about this anyway.

“I bet Adam didn't tell you about us yet?”

“What do you mean?”

Behati just looked at her for a moment. Exhaled and then said, “We’re having our baby.”

Christina just stared at her. She didn't want to believe her. She didn't want to believe anything. Why didn't Adam tell this to her? Are they still seeing each other? Adam knew this all the way and he didn't even mention anything to her? She felt anger all over her. She couldn't take everything in. Adam didn't trust her enough. He kept secrets from her. How could he do this to her? She looked back at Behati. “How long do both of you know about this?” she managed to ask.

“It’s been a month now,” Behati lied. It wasn't even a month had passed when she and Adam broke up.  It’s not really her intention to ruin their relationship but she thought she’s doing this for her baby. She didn't want to be selfish. But at this point, she has to be. For her baby, for their baby.

Evening came. Christina just prepared pasta for dinner. She just sat on her couch and wait for him. When the door bell rang, she rushed outside to open the gate herself. Adam wore a plain shirt and a black denim pants, the usual, of course. She kissed him on the cheeks. Adam wanted to kiss her on the lips but she stopped him, “later,” she teased.

They went inside. While they ate, they told stories about their past lives, their troubles and how did they overcame it, their regrets in life, and their confessions. Christina waited for him to mention about his baby, but he never did. She was disappointed. After they ate, they sat on the couch and watch tv. At this point, Christina wasn't speaking at all. Adam was asking what movie she wants to watch, if she wanted to watch a football game, or news. Adam just kept on talking, until he realized how quiet she had been after their dinner. He looked at her. He couldn't tell what she was thinking. “Something wrong?” he asked.

Christina looked at him. Her look seemed so far away. “Why didn't you tell me?”

“Tell you what?” he said.

“That you’re having your baby.”

Adam was frightened when she heard her say those words. He could feel the sadness in her tone. Is she mad? Of course, she is! “Who told you?”

“It doesn't matter now, Adam! The point is, why didn't you tell me?” Christina was furious. She wanted to keep calm but she couldn't.

“I was afraid. I…. I don’t know how to tell you. I…. I’m afraid I would lose you,” he explained calmly.

“Damn it! You’re afraid to lose me?! You don’t even trust me enough for you to keep this as a secret, Adam! When I hadn't known it now, when are you gonna tell me, huh?!” she shouted, thankful that Max wasn't home to witness all this. He could feel her anger.

“Christina, please. Let me explain,” he pleaded. “I’m going to tell this to you, Christina. But, I don’t know when, I just have to figure out yet how I would do. I trust you, Chris. Please, believe me. I don’t want to lose you!”

“ You've known this even before we got together, haven’t you? You shouldn't have let me fall in your little game when you already know you’re having your child! Damn it!”

“Even before we got together? Where’d you get this Chris? I've only known this when Bee went in on the set! I was shocked as well!”

“I don’t care, Adam! You lied to me! You keep secrets from me! How will I trust you in a long run when we’re just in the start and you’re already lying to me! I fucking hate this! Leave!”

“Christina, please!”

“I said, leave!” she shouted pointing to her door. She was in rage.

Adam bit his lip. He didn't want to leave. He wanted her to forgive him. He was so miserable when he went out. He stayed there outside her gate for a while. Tears began to fall from his eyes. He was so devastated. Will he lose her now? He didn't want that, yet, or ever! He drove home. He was driving so fast that he exceeded the limit. Instead of going straight home, he stopped at Behati’s unit.

After Adam left, Christina just sat on the floor. She knew she totally lose herself there. She didn't mean to shout at him. Was she really angry at him because he didn't tell her? Or because she couldn't accept the fact that they wouldn't last long because Adam is having his child and this means he has responsibilities to Behati. Will they get married? Will they live in one house? No! She couldn't afford to think like that. She loves Adam but now that this happened, she’ll lose him. She thought of ending the relationship now before their situation gets worse. She cried and cried until she got tired. She went to her bedroom and just stared at the picture of her and Adam on her phone until she fell asleep.
