"Mom!" I scream. She doesn't come. "Mom!" I scream again. She doesn't come. "Allison Brookes, my heavens get in here, please!"
My mom bursts through my room laughing.
"What are you laughing at?" I asked her.
"You." She replied.
I rolled my eyes. "Anyways," I start. "Look!" I scream and point at my computer screen.
"Wow," my mom says. "Ten subscribers." She is not amused.
"Mom, you don't understand!" I scream and she jumps away from my bed. "Ten whole subscribers! I need to make a video!"
I set down my laptop and pause. "Mom,"
"Yeah?"
"Get out!" I shout and laugh at the same time so she doesn't take me too seriously.
"Alright, alright." She laughs and once I close my door, I hear her say, "I wonder what she'll be like at one million subscribers."
It was a year and half later now, on a Saturday. I woke up towards the afternoon and grabbed my phone to check the time. Thankfully, since it was Saturday, I had no problem with waking up later in the day. I took my laptop from my nightstand and placed it on a small, flat pillow on my lap. I proceeded to open up Twitter, then YouTube. My everyday routine. But this day was a little different. In my YouTube inbox was a letter from no fan, but a college. A university.
"Hello beautyandthebelle," I began to read aloud to myself. "We have recently noticed you reached an enormous amount of subscribers and would like to congratulate you! It is an honor to have you be a part of our YouTube community, and with such a big achievement comes prizes. The YouTube company itself would like to send you a scholarship to attend a very high qualified school in the United States. The school you would be attending is none other than YouTube University, or YTU for short. We congratulate you once more on your behalf of one million subscribers and hope to hear from you soon! Click the link below for further details on the school and scholarship- wait." I cut myself off from reading.
"One. Million. Subscribers?" Is this real?
I clicked out of my inbox and went to my home page to see exactly 1,000,037 subscribers.
"Oh my goodness gracious."
My name is Annabelle Brookes, or Anna for short, or you could even call me my YouTube username, beautyandthebelle! I am 23 years old and discovered YouTubers when I was scrolling through recommended videos. Bethany Mota first, then Connor Franta popped up, followed by OurSecondLife, and so forth. When I reached the age of 16, my mom let me have a Twitter account and I promised myself that once I opened an account, I would make YouTube videos like all my role models did! I planned on being successful and famous, and every ten new subscribers, I would freak out because that meant I was ten subs closer to reaching my life long goal of one million subscribers. And here I am, at 12:00 in the afternoon, sitting in bed on my laptop getting a scholarship because I reached my dream.
"Oh my goodness gracious." I repeated.
"Mom." I yelled. I opened the link that came in the online letter and began browsing the school website.
'This is a legit school.' I thought.
"Mom!" I yelled louder. She entered my room and walked towards me.
"Yeah?"
"I think I might be going to LA."
