If she could go back in time and tell herself that this—this petty little decision of hers was an utter waste of her time and little to no effort, she most certainly would. Dear God, she hadn’t thought that taking muggle studies would be this painful. And instead of putting the damned blame of herself—where it rightfully belonged—she blamed Severus Snape.

It was his fault if she thought about it for a while, it wasn’t her fault he decided to pop by her house late summer when she was choosing her courses for the next year. He wasn’t even invited—he just showed up like an unwanted, raging, large pimple.

Lily had cursed him for a while and then in between foul language and his pleading sorries, she’d asked him ‘what the hell he was doing here’.

“I was curious as to what you were picking for your classes.” She had one slot left for a class two options in the line of becoming a healer or auror. Muggle studies or Good Grace for Girls. (It was a class added in order to teach girls how to be graceful yet dangerous.)

Lily was planning to waste her time in that class despite already taking the muggle version during the summer, because her mother would just die if Lily could manage to balance a book on her head.

Yet when he asked her if was actually considering muggle studies she threw all her sensibility out the window and circled the class before sealing the letter and sending it. How daft she’d been too.

It wasn’t that the class was hard—it was quite the opposite, she was just increasing bored. And unproud as she was about it, she had thought a number of times of throwing herself out the muggle studies classroom tower’s window to leave herself dead.

And the people in the class, more specifically James Potter and Sirius Black were absolutely intolerable. With their oos and ahs. She was growing impatient with them. As well as the other purebloods in the room who consistently made fun of every aspect of muggle life.

The current topic; Entertainment.

Muggle entertainment was outstanding and wizards hand drawn short end of stick when it came down to entertainment. Lily couldn’t possibly understand how they’d gone without movies and only had three or four options for music that all sounded the same. Like opera, just wailing into a microphone with a piano background. It was awful.

The first number of business for muggle entertainment was party entertainment. More specifically; today’s topic, Karaoke. Lily thought about the window option more seriously.

If it was one thing she could not stand was a shitty re-endention of ‘Wonderwall’ or ‘Chicken Fry’.

So when the muggle studies professor pulled out a karaoke machine and a microphone inevitably her head slammed on the desk with a loud and dramatic thud.

“Karaoke! Who can tell me what it is?” Professor Melanie Snotgrass asked, setting up the karaoke machine. “Miss Evans?” She called on Lily.

Of course the muggleborn would know.

“A waste of time.” Lily muttered, mostly to herself but everyone heard her anyway.
